What he said, i got a One Planet Nitrous -3 and very happy with it , packs down very small, weighs about 600 gr. Been plenty warm enough so far , but yet to test it in colder temperatures.
That's a neat story and photos, i find it hard to shoot deer myself if i don't need the meat or its just an average stag . I enjoy just watching them or getting a photo but agree we need to thin...
I've been very happy with mine, going on 3 years or so and should be replaced now as the tread on the sole is starting to wear down but will get through the roar period first. Definitely getting...
Good story mate, love trips like that.
I believe the NZ hunter crew use R23 in there 20in 7rm. Greg talks about it in there june/july 2023 issue of there nz hunter mag.

I got my 7 rm to shoot long range but i keep shooting deer at close range especially during the roar. 22in barrel plus suppressor, no problem in the tight stuff .
Sako ammo i used to use in my 7rm with the 165gr sierra gamechanger while insanely accurate was only doing 2730fps from my 22in barrel. On the box it says 2887fps
If you look on that map i put up ,on the left hand side just to the left the word Patea there is a hut marked there . That is the Miracle biv, it goes back to the culling days and is still used by...
I have never heard of the "Rabitors cottage reserve" but from those photos it looks like the Miracle biv, it goes back to the culling days !. A neat spot
Plenty of animals near Ruahine Corner even though its had a couple of 1080 drops in recent years. They would come in from the nearby private land .

Went for a weekend mission up on to the Mokai range via the new/old public access through Mokai station, its a real slog from the carpark up through the farm and then an even steeper climb up onto...
Most of the huts will be already booked for a fly in trip ,especially Ironbark but Mckinnon is certainly worth a crack
Good stuff mate, hope to get back up there myself soon
You mite be right there mate, i've seen plenty of hinds with fawns in the Ruahines but also a few hinds that i thought should have a fawn but didn't seem too. Maybe they were just well grown younger...

Was watching this group of 3 hinds and 2 fawns trying to work out which one did not have a fawn . Northwest ruahines.
A nice yearling walked out in front of the hinds so problem solved!
Couldn't agree more mate, although i would hesitate to use the word 'effortlessly' when you have two legs of boned out venison plus backsteaks in your pack with your other gear . LOL
My brother has...
Just another reason i really like my Osprey Aether AG 70 ltr pack is that the top lid of the pack unclips and has its own separate straps to use as a day pack. Its big enough to hold a coat , food ,...
yeah i recon shorts track is the way to go , i've been up shorts track years ago but not down the range to the Ngamoko turn off, but think its fairly straightforward.
