Very cool, looks like a Model-R factory sporter. A very nice gun, yes should be able to fab something up easy enough!

SeftonB here you go. It depends what kind of receiver bridge you have, the .280 came with the ring sight as an option like this one. If it was originally a military rifle or .303 sporter it probably...
akaroa1 Yes, those are rookie numbers compared to you I'm sure!
Hi akaroa1 would be keen, one of my guns is without a serial
chainsaw I think -BW- is correct. Having recently hunted down some projectiles in once of these obsolete calibers .287 for my Ross, I reckon that we are talking in such tiny size differences that...
Got-ya thanks for that, always keen to get another one underway!
Hi 30.06king
I have attached a couple more pictures that should help, the first is a round in the mag which is essentially the same as any Mauser style mag of the time. The round pops up and into...
akaroa1 they are refinished in cerakote - Midnight Black - Which basically gives the same final colour as bluing near enough. The original factory rifles would have been blued, but the one that is...
Sidetrack Yes pretty much, I have found a picture from an old MKII manual below (which is the same principle slightly different execution), the bolt body is cut with helical grooves that align with...
-BW- Good to hear there are a few around, I think the action is a brilliant design. I would rebarrel in 30/303 if you decide you want to shoot it! That said if you ever want to part with it you know...
Great info to have though, thanks for sharing!
Cool thanks for the tip, I will do that from now on!
No I didn’t anneal them, probably part of my problem. Although as they were new and Hornady supposedly do it at the factory I wasn’t too bothered. Might try it next time though!
The .287 projectiles were the most difficult thing to source as only two manufacturers make them, Hawk Bullets in the US and Woodleigh in Australia. They are only still made as the .275 H&H uses them...
No worries, I'm pleased with how they both turned out.
The case forming, that was a research exercise largely, not as hard as sourcing the projectiles, obviously there is no factory cartridge...
Hi all,
Thought I would show off a couple of projects I have been working on over the last wee while,
First is a MKIII Ross that I received as a barreled action with no stock. It has been...
Hi All,
Just looking for a bit of info, has anyone had any work done by Armaworx in Wellington lately? Trying to get ahold of them for a while now.
Cheers,
Callum
Thanks will give them a try
Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone knows of alternate suppliers other than Woodleighs for .287 dia projectiles for my .280 Ross?
Have contacted the NZ supplier for Woodleigh but he doesn't...
Thanks Fernleaf, will give it a go
Hi all,
Have looked around the forum/google and can't find an answer to this one..
Is there any dealer in NZ who imports brass from RCC (Roberson Cartridge Company)?
Need some obscure brass...
