It’s the introduction of the EGR heat to modern diesels that is the problem. These were introduced to control NOx emissions. Older diesels didn’t have them, hence no heat and hence no soot....
Don’t bugger around with the EGR, fit an oil catch can to the crankcase gases line instead.
Much better to remove the source of the soot (oil vapour in crankcase gases) because even if you are...
