Nice shooting!
Have been contemplating a 17hmr lately and this doesn't help me resisting the urges
The pros and cons are pretty straight forward,
Pro: it's shorter and also lighter
Con: loss of velocity
Increase in noise and recoil due to higher muzzle pressure
More suppressor wear from...
Looks like you might have mounted the rail the wrong way around to how it is meant to go, this would aim the rail down and make it shoot high.
I would just try turning around the rail and remount...
A 20" barreled 270 is plenty short enough, I think it just pays to find a shorter suppressor not a 6" forward one
Nice rifle, I have just swapped one of mine to the same stock!
One possibility that comes to mind is that the brass might be holding tension and need annealing?
I had an 08 D40, was a manual, the factory dual mass flywheel are rubbish but didn't have any other issues
A 175Gr Nosler Partition is shorter than any of the ELD / VLD type 160gr+ bullets so will stabilize fine in a 9.5 twist barrel
I think they might be the flasher model, are they Bluetooth?
They seem like they have a bit more of a scallop towards the bottom of the shell which could help cheek weld a bit
Planning on getting my dad some for Christmas, I use a set of impact sport electronic ones but do find they really pick up Cicadas and feel they could be better.
I use mine mainly for range shooting...
I rate the cheaper 3-9 type Leupolds, they are light weight, have relatively good glass, eye relief and a good warranty.
With any load you are really only loosing 50yards range at most cutting a 270win from 22-20inches.
Ran it through quickload, RL17 could work fine too but you will struggle more with case capacity, a lot of the impressive results could be out of FTR setup rifles with long Barrels and throats?
If...
I would play with 41-43gr of 760, around 2350fps might be on the edge.
With the 220gr I see you gaining more energy into the dirt but would be curious to see how it goes.
It should work fine and...
What twist rate and barrel length?
Creedmoor if you just want to go hunting, factory ammo works great.
Might aswell just go 6.5x284 over .260 if you want more performance and are handloading
This is the latest addition to the collection and really like it so far, bought it as a barreled action and added the oryx stock and made up a bag rider.
26" Howa in 6.5 Creedmoor, have been...
I think the mossbergs are 22"
In terms of short and handy I would think 20" with a suppressor on the end is a good place to be, I have used plenty of rifles setup like this and they seem to become...
I would give it a go
I run 308win SRP brass through a Tikka with no issues using federal match primers
Think I will just try all these ideas, give one a go at 200 and see how it goes, have one artistic one in particular that will be perfect for the job
Have some plates made out of ar450, they are only around 4mm thick, I'm curious to what most people are using and any thoughts on how these might hold up to a centerfire?
I would go 1:8, I have found my one shoots cheap 55gr easily under 1moa (Never bought expensive factory .223) and anything I reload is 55gr to 80gr
You can do all of this with a 300wsm much easier
Does anybody have a McMillan A5 in or around Auckland that I could have a look at?
Happy to provide beers etc
Interesting, standard barrel lengths are 510 and 400, was it chopped previously?
Currently going through the same thing with trying to find accurate loads for a different bullet in my 7mm Mag and know how easy it is to get caught up in the hunt for speed.
I would back it down...
