Not for me. Have already told Sarvo I'll buy his Forest II
Have decided to buy the 8.5x50 binos Sarvo has recommended.
Using the remaining gift $ to get a bushbuck bino case & harness plus a SNDWAY 1000m range finder from aliexpress. New boys toys :-)
That's why I'm really tempted as they seem extremely good value. Leaves cash for a holder & a low cost SNDWAY range finder.
Thinking one of these bags...
If I buy Vortex it'll defeintely be via Broncos! Undecided at moment as Sarvo has offered to source me some extremely well priced Delta Optical Forest II however unsure as they're 8.5x50 & 870 grams
sorted out the difference with Broncos vs H&F
https://www.targettamers.com/binoculars/vortex-diamondback-10x42-review/
Broncos have the newer version at lower price
Same model name as the Vortex listed by H&F but looks quite different and slightly different specs. Old model vs new model maybe?
Refreshing this as I now have secure budget of $500 max.
So what 8x42 or 10x42 do you suggest and purchase from where? I'm in Christchurch.
A few I found as maybes...
Cordite, the reasons you state make sense but I've been told to get 10x as 8x won't be enough for the distances in open exposed Canterbury high country. Surely location and intended use trumps other...
This a such a good forum for getting good advice! There's a MTB forum I used a few years ago that was great for sharing info, trial details, maintenance tips etc but it's entirely been taken over by...
Spotted this https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1913860676 and thought it could be an option as has 4.5-14x scope.
Ok value?
I think you're referring to this one https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/hunting-shooting/rifles/centrefire/listing-1905851728.htm?rsqid=356bbad547844ec5b334f24d58a91f8f
I can't buy yet as FAL not...
We've used Rubber Monkey website quite a lot at work for protective cases for survey & test equipment and it's ok. Fast delivery so I doubt they're acting as middle men.
The advice has been great! A lot suggesting second hand so I'll keep an eye out.
One question, do most gun shops offer a pre purchase inspection for second hand rifles? I don't know how to check...
One of these?...
Understood. The advice makes sense. My concern (& why I'm asking advice) is if I spend too much on binos the leisurely rate my budget comes at the animals I'd see via good binos may well have moved...
Will check them out & particularly if fits me. I’m 172cm so not the biggest person but do have long arms which might be helpful
The range finder hint is great! I’ve brought a lot of misc stuff,...
Thanks all. Awesome helpful replies! I was concerned all suggestions would be “spend more & you must have this as very minimum” but the replies generally have been “spend right”.
I’ll spend some...
Thanks Ryan. Your reply gels with me a lot! Getting equipment that is reasonably priced and popular hence easily resaleable if need be fits with what I was thinking.
Ah, of course. Well equipped friends would be useful! I'm resigned to the fact I'll need to cover the equipment alone.
Might delay the rangefinder as have done a reasonable amount of orienteering...
To answer questions, will sometime to alone but most often will be with wife as she's keen for long fitness walks too. Hope in time to be with other hunters. Will seek out HUNTS course later this...
Seems I need difference advice! Was thinking along lines of buy new popular rifle and keep it for long time, upgrading the accessories as need and budget allows.
What's an example of a used 7mmRM...
I'm real new to this so a bit uncertain about your comment. Tikka seems to be very popular and hence seemed like a good choice. At moment $800 seems a lot for binos, particualry as first pair. Maybe...
Cheers Chainsaw. Hear what you're saying. Buying used can save a lot of money. I frequently buy used or lower spec stuff when its used infrequently or quality doesn't matter so much, like some DIY...
gonetropo, I am in Chch. Prebbleton actually. I notice the travelite is 25mm lens. Much effect compared to 42mm at dawn and dusk?
chainsaw, I'll check with my CFO. Suspect reply will be a combo...
