Aren't patched 'rounds' what you shoot out of your muzzleloader?
Ideally you want to use a snail, over a slug. Better shell.
Mostly 'cos we want to :-) ! Gives a lot of flexibility when out bunny/magpie/possum shooting when there are bigger beasts around. Plus, when you've already got a shotgun, $2,000+ for a 45/70 is a...
I've got 'em in from aliexpress before https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32323119744.html
How about a smaller one of these? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy0tRFCI1lE
The Cork tiles didn't punch out cleanly, they crumbled a lot - I'll need to make a thinner walled punch.
The action l locked up on about 80% of the shells, but I've rounded off all the rims so...
Nah, I was just being lazy using the same scoop, more is always better - plus I'm after fun, light loads with a big boom for kids to shoot.
I've a Lee one, but afraid I'm mid-move packed. Can cast you some up when I've a garage back.
Couldn't work out how to edit the last post! 169573
I've been led astray by a gentleman who's formed a pile of .410 bore brass for me... so I've started on some black powder loads.
- large pistol primer
- a scoop of black powder (about 35-40gr)...
Puzzlement #2:
Is your barrel back bored so the bore is slightly oversized, so the choke, while cylinder, is tighter than than the rest of the barrel?
Are muzzle loaders welcome?! We're pretty filthy.
I looked at "Rib Rider" mounts for red dots, but wound up not getting one. I've seen some neat pictures of ribs with dovetails cut in and a folding 10/22 type rear sight installed.
Probably works for fetching your slippers too!
If you get them stuck, you can get them undone without damage with a pair of strap wrenches (easy enough to make if you've some tie downs and bits of wood lying around.
Sounds like that's what those pro-shot things are - mine have the loops scraping, rather than bristles. They're great for leaded up rifles too.
I've been using the merino ones Cactus Outdoor sell, but the neigh-bour swears by these

I'm probably late to the party, but if you wanna burn up that cupless shot, these Proshot Tornado brushes strip leading out fast and and last ages.

Next time I get the pot out, I'll cast up some 1oz Lee Keydrives and send you some down to try.
About 30gr black powder, a kiss of a crimp - good to go!
Please, yeah, I'm keen to try one. If it doesn't work out for me I'll get hold of you Marty Henry
Never tried a rifled shotgun barrel, all smoothbore (not even pitted!), seems to happen with any factory slug - those Proshot Tornado brushes pull heaps of lead out after a handful of shots.
I...
Yes please! Yeah, I'm still wondering if the muzzloaders are okay with patched ball, or if it's gotta be a lubed conical now!
Thanks! I'll keep an eye out on TradeMe! I've been out goating with factory slugs a lot, good out to about 80m, but after a few shots I need to have a rod and lead brush with me or they start going...
Yep, I'm keen to go the Rizla route. I didn't realise how much leading I'd get from the factory rifled slugs - I've only reloaded black shotshell before. I'm pretty keen to use a 12ga slug I can drop...
