Thanks Canross. I'm thinking of making some knife sheaths. I've tried vegetable tanning just once. I soaked a possum skin in a wattle bark solution. It went a deep reddish colour. Best...
That duckweed seems to grow super fast. There is a pond near our place that gets covered with it. I didn't know about its nutrition qualities though....
Good stuff Moa Hunter. Your dog must love you.
I split pig skins down the spine sometimes myself. A whole skin can really be quite stiff and hard to manipulate, especially further toward the shield area. I haven't hung carcasses by the head for...
".... I hang it up and punch it all off. But I'm always washing my left hand that is holding the skin and never put it on the meat unless it's clean.
If you punch the skin off from the tail, down...
With my limited experience, if I had to pick one projectile from all the .223 bullets I've used, I'd choose the 70 grain Speer. However, none of the other soft pointed bullets I've used have...
Yes.... While I need comparatively few cartridges for hunting, I have used a heap of of them at range sessions. Always something else to try, or I change or check a scope I'm glad I got a lot of...
What a great thread. Thank you for all the good information.
If I had to choose just one rifle that best suited what I do, it would be a .223. I don't shoot anywhere near as many animals as...
While I'm aware of the Holosun brand name, I've had no experience with any of their products. There is quite a choice nowadays. The big thing, for me, is to pick a dealer/shop who will stand behind...
The batteries that come with the Sytongs are flat-topped and are about 65 mm tall.... or maybe a tad under. Some 18650 batteries are quite a bit longer and, as you say, they have a button top. ...
Hey Jukes... good question. I've been regularly hunting at night since I last posted.
I sold my Pulsar NV scope and bought another Sytong. The Pulsar worked very well and there was nothing...
I've really only paid attention to the point of impact of the first shot when i've been to the range for a sighting or load testing session. And i've seen a difference of maybe two inches at 100...
Thanks Grey Kiwi. I realise there will be a wide variety of opinions, but I imagine that bench rest enthusiasts like yourself will have thought carefully about what happens to their bores.
I got...
Happy New Year.
Thought I'd post about lubricants and corrosion protection for hunting and fishing gear. I'm also interested to learn what others do about oil in their rifle bores.
When I...
"if you are short on eggs when baking, blood can also make a suitable substitute". Heh... dunno how well that would be accepted in my household. And I imagine that pavlovas would look a little...
great photos thanks. Interesting that the ducks are better layers. Duck eggs are certainly good to eat and I've heard they can be better for baking. What about pavlovas I wonder?
I wonder if you had some eggs that hadn't been refrigerated... and had been fertilised by your rooster.... maybe you could stick them under a broody bantam
That's an appropriate bag for the rooster. You've given me a business idea. Pre-printing coffins with emojis and words that express our feelings about the passing of the occupant.
Looks good MarkN. I like to have plenty of fluid in my curries. It soaks into the rice we serve it with and it can really 'stretch' a small curry into a big feed.
The 'handy' goats near home...
Heh.... brain shot = no brains. With a body shot you have the brains but holes in the skin. Some folks have talked about using egg yolk for the fat instead of using brains.
I always enjoy looking at your posts Bumblefoot. I will be interested to learn more about your skin curing process.
Another great photo.
Thanks. Eggs would be one of the last foods I'd ever want to give up. Love them.
Wow. Never come across this before. Are they cooked eggs with a crack in the shells? Good stuff Bumblefoot.
