Try just using your rifle’s chamber as a comparator. Bump the shoulder until you get just a slight amount of resistance when closing the bolt. Too much and you will be head spacing off the belt...

With both ELD-M and ELD-X I have found 20 thou to be the winner with all but one rifle which likes 10 thou jump. Never tried them jammed, but longer jumps don’t go well.
....and he will ream out a Tikka chamber, which most will not touch.
He told me once that his son wanted a harp but he couldn’t afford one so just made one himself. His son is now a pro concert harpist. He used to know PO Akley too. He is also one of not many...
There you go. Good choice, and happy hunting.
Yes, he’s good - was doing the Gun City riflesmithing when they were in Mot. He’s an interesting bugger too.

MD - military ammo is lifed and can’t be used after its use by date (even though it’s still perfectly good). When I was in Afghanistan in 2010 the UK ATOs blew up a batch of lifted ammo of various...
Dave Ward in Dovedale. He has converted two 7-08s to .284 Win for me and does good work for sensible money.
NABLR for a Grendel? Much better options than that, and the high BC is wasted, plus they are very expensive for shooting goats. It’s a bonded projectile and not a great long range design as it relies...
Agreed - x-bolt is too small and light for me with my fingers like sausages. I tried them a few times and they felt like toys to me, with the fit all wrong. That’s just me and I’m sure they fit...
I suppose there’s another option:
Shrug shoulders and go hunting with what you have.
Agreed - H&S stupidity.
I’m pretty sure the US military is or has gone to copper projectiles. Where they lead manufacturers follow as they buy far more ammo than sporting and target shooters do....
The vast majority of deer shot for the trade in the UK are shot in the engine room. I don’t know how anyone is going to know what a deer was shot with there but it’s causing some consternation.

G’Day All,
Just been talking to a mate in the UK and the stalkers there are being told that dame dealers will no longer accept deer shot with lead containing projectiles. That means anyone wanting...

That’s not much more than an inch group (albeit only 2 shots) at 400 yards, so getting around.3 MOA, whjich is good by any measure. Seems accurate enough to drop a stag, which is what it’s ultimately...
2217 is a great powder for heavies. My .300WM with a 26” barrel does 2980 with 208s. 2217 is also very temp stable and pretty easy to find.
I decided a long time ago that shiny brass contributed nothing to consistency. I uniform primer pockets, size and brush the inside of the neck a bit with a nylon brush then get on with loading. I...
2217/H1000 - temperature stable and good velocity, plus relatively easy to source.
77.6 grains with 208 ELD-M in mine.
I spent an enjoyable afternoon in Kent shooting the .338 with some sniper instructors in 2009 when I was in the RAF Regiment. Prolly fired 40-50 rounds out to 1200m. Great fun, but glad I wasn’t...
Both will get the job done, but .300WM comes into its own with 200+ grain projectiles.
I have a 26” .300WM that throws 208 ELD-Ms at 2980fps, which a .300WSM will not do. .300WSM is more...
I’m with this too. I have never owned Camo hunting gear as I don’t like the look when out in public. I have had numerous encounters with deer at close range whilst wearing drab greens where I stood...

I presume it’s a Bartlein barrel with 8.7 twist? I have one on my 7RM and load 180s and RE26 for 2840 fps from a 25” barrel. The twist rate is more than enough for 180s at those sorts of speeds.
Rifle builder said it would need 85,000 psi to do that!
