Those are some impressive numbers, the lowly 308 ay?
Anyhow I was looking through my notes from the last time out and the load at 43 grains gave me 2150 fps...so these may have been going faster...
Was that a 26 inch barrel model? Mine is the 20 inch Sporter. 2630 is pretty awesome from a 308! That's certainly a hammer. I really just wanted to see what would happen and it turns out it would be...
So finally, a conclusion to the tests. Got out yesterday and shot the last 6 I had of the 220 ELD-X.
A charge of 45 grains of Belmont 760 is where I finished up with two shots averaging 2180fps...
Right?! I think I'll use the last 6 to see how far I can crank them up and maybe get a box of them at some point later down the track. It's good to know that this rifle will shoot just about anything...
Just really wanted to see what they could do out of a standard howa 308. Even at 2200fps they're still doing 1783 fps at 400 yards?! Over 1500 ftlbs of energy as well.

Forgot to say, I had no pressure signs at 44 grains, all cases ejected easily and had no ejector swipe or anything strange going on. I have 6 220 ELD-X left and I'm unsure how best to test them. Load...
I also got to shoot the 175 tmks I had loaded up to try as well. No idea on velocity but these had the same point of impact as my 168 ELD-M load.
To save paper (and faffing around hanging...
The shots that went over the chronograph went into the dirt.
Right, progress! I finally got out yesterday afternoon and shot the 220s. Target was at 100 yards and I only managed to chronograph 2 rounds in the ladder.
Started at 40 grains of 760 and went up...
Update, I've loaded enough to do a ladder test. Just working on getting some nicer weather and free time to match it.
Cheers Woody mine is a 20 inch barrel so in theory I'll be somewhere around 2470 fps? My intention is to use IMR 4064 with the 175 TMKs, that should hopefully yield a bit more speed in my set up....
Driverman I'll have the chrony set up and will hopefully get on paper relatively quickly. Hopefully it's not a bust ;)
Shadowsol you're probably right, I don't think mr Hornady intended these for 308 but there's data there and I want to see if it will work :D
They would probably be amazing for bush hunting our...
Thanks winaa interesting that Sierra list W760 but hornady don't. Nevertheless I'll start low and work up, I don't know if I'll get to 45 grains at that length though.
I'll use winchester brass...
Thanks for taking the time to put that through quickload Cooper, I really appreciate it. W760 is one I'll definitely have a play with. I completely agree with using a magnum for sending them fast,...
Have you seen that in a manual somewhere Cooper?
I heard that sierra used to publish data for their 220 SMKin 308, does anyone have an old Sierra manual they could have a flip through?
I saw on...

168 ELD-M on the left and 220 ELD-X on the right.
Very long bearing surface, the 220 is at 2.940 inches which is touching the lands in my 308. Mag fit and function is a bit shorter at...
I'll definitely be testing them without a suppressor  they honestly don't look that ridiculous next to the 168 ELD-M
What powder were you using? Could you give me somewhere to start? I'll probably single feed them in mine, they are verrrrry long.
Sorry I should have mentioned, it's a howa 1500 1 in 10 twist, 20 inch barrel :D
Ben_welder could you shed some light for me?
Hi all, has anyone played with this combo before?
Not looking to reinvent the cartridge or anything, just bought a sample pack without looking for data first :ORLY:
I have a few powders that...
