They are ok
Not the best 44 mag leaver in the world that’s for sure but they certainly do the job
Cheaper option for home guard you don’t want all your flash bolt action rifles being tied up at home you want them on the front lines
So in other words you need to learn to control fouling
It’s fantastic if you do things right i shoot a 38-50 ( more powder same bullet = more fouling)
A good bullet that holds plenty of lubricant...

a new barrel almost always will speed up 30-100fps depending on the barrel after 100 shots or so. (probably teaching you how to suck eggs)

38/40 is a pistol round pretty much a necked down 44-40
The 38/55 is a rifle round two very different beasts
Both awesome calibers though just very different
