How and how often should you clean your "sealed unit" silencer.
Mine is stainless and was told it wouldn't need cleaned.
Doesn't sound right to me, especially after the one I seen today.

They get a lot of shit in there and it's pretty hard to remove, I'd clean on a regular basis
Boom, cough,cough,cough
holy shit
VIVA LA HOWA
Mine is a spring and washer one, pulled it apart for a clean the other day and it had a bit of crap in it but nothing like that.
If its sealed then maybe try just spraying a heap of brakleen or CRC or something into it and see if stuff dissolves and washes out?
Wow that is pretty bad alright, I've got one of the spring and washer ones as well, Manders I think? Simple, lightweight and quiet and it certainly doesn't build up like that. I'm not a silencer expert but if its fouling up that badly I can't help but think it must be a poor design, it does look a bit over engineered for a 22 silencer.
Hmmm..... I just worked out I haven't cleaned out the Parkerhale one on my 22 in over a decade. If I can get it apart, I'll try tumbling the internals with stainless media. Probably just find it's done it's dash inside.

Haha, classic subs. Did it still suppress ok?
Cleaning 22 silencers is easy but how does everyone clean their closed centerfire ones? I've heard ultrasonics are good but can fuck some metals (aluminum?). Otherwise heard boiling water down them and all kinds of stuff.
Yes, subs always. Suppresses awesome.
Like I said not mine, the big lump at top left was really waxy, compressed like soap, so cleaning with hot soapy water might help with getting rid of any lube buildup. It was still surpressing, but was spraying bullets.
It was last cleaned 6 months ago, but has had ten thousand rounds thru it since then, all cci subs.
Now has dpt modular one on it.
Petrol cleans most things
I have a Dan hardy closed unit on my .308 and it has a plastic bush and cap on the stock end not sure if petrol would be good for the plastic ay?
Use this stuff on nail guns ( the type combustion ones ) the carbon just pours out , I'd say work on suppressor a treat
