Just wondering if a package containing an extractor for a remington 1100 would get through customs both here and america easily or would an import permit be required as it is a firearm part?

Yeah just ask them to call it an engineering item
Nah, had to get an import permit for a Sako extractor!
Weird, my AO says no import paperwork needed for a bolt action part, except maybe a receiver and thats only to keep the duhs at customs happy. Ive imported lots of enfield parts in the last year so I cant see an issue with an extractor, ring your AO.

Your biggest problem is the likelihood your shipment hits a jobsworth at Customs this end who thinks he knows it all.
"Oh, er, tha' there looks like gun bit. I knows guns, me. More'n my jobs worf ter let tha' through wi'out a hImport Permit... Has ter 'ave one, tha' do, 'coz its a gun bit, an' I knows guns, me..."
