    Drums

With the wife getting pregnant and me being an impatient being unneeded a new project so thought I'd make some drums with the intent of making a small set for baby when old enough. Bit of fun and now endless opportunities lol those who are into drumming, the 14x8 has a trick 3 position snare throw off to go from sharp crisp to loose snare with a quick flick of the switch. 9 degree cuts on each of the 20 staves, bit of fine tuning to get to exactly 9 degrees and avoid gaps, made a jig to run router across and get it balanced before going on the lathe (didn't want to have them blow apart)

One was Rimu oak alternate staves the other was all rimu, conveniently when I pulled out the old laundry cabinets I found they were rimu so will do a set out of that, left the inside rough machined so there are bits of paint on there to show it's origins want to do some out of black walnut, black maire or puriri just as something a bit rare, getting something burnt onto the completed shell would be pretty cool

I'm making a new lathe at the moment to handle bass and floor tom sized drums better, will likely run it really slow and stick with the router on a slide type setup so I don't have to spin it fast while off balance and risk blow ups (will run it faster for sanding etc once roughed out, balanced and turning true. I just need a rainy day when I'm not working to weld up the base
