    Nice rifle.

    I use 43-43.5g of AR2208 in my 22" barrel 7mm08 with 130-140gr projectiles.

    Also have a 15" barreled 7mm08, which i use CFE223 to get a 120gr Nosler Ballistic tip doing 2900.

Thanks for that, I believe 2208 is a bit slower than Win748 and because of the short barrel, I thought a faster powder might help burn quicker before the projectile leaves the barrel?
But can't find any data on Win748 and 7mm08.
Is there any difference in using Magnum Primers with Win748?

The Hornady Loading Manual (3rd Ed, published 1980) says start at 34.8grns W748 and max at 40.1grns. Tested with 18.5" barrel max velocity 2,500fps.
I always found this particular manual quite conservative.

    Hope that assists.

Other way round, W748 is actually slightly slower than 2208. However slower powders can often give more velocity in short barrels. IE i use 7828ssc (and its way slower again) in my dads 18.5" 243 with 100gr pills, and it gives far greater velocity than 2209 does.

    Thanks Thar & GWH
I might switch powder then and try some ADI 2208.
Velocity of 2500fps is very slow..

Nothing wrong with 2209, currently running 140g Berger vld hunting with 48g 2209 doing 2660. Speed is not the be all. Accuracy is. This load in my gun is 1/4 MOA.

    @diana2
    I've got Hornady 9th edition (2012 p330).
For 139gn bullets (their own of course), the only Winchester powder shown is WIN760.

    Load data:
    40.1gr WIN760 gives 2400fps, 48.9gr gives 2900fps.
    Cases - RP/Frontier, Barrel - 24", Primer - Rem 9 1/2

Like anything where your components are different - use the information provided, but no guarantees given or implied - safe loading practices, start low and step up gradually.
Good luck - hope the above is helpful.

I think that you could cautiously push the loads I gave for 748 and do just as well with it as 2208 in your short barrel. Just be damned careful.

You cant expect to have a short 16" barrel and then chase speed with a 139 grn barrel.

The best alternative to just sticking to what you have got is to get a box of 120 grn Nosler ballistic tips and a pot of cfe.223 powder. Then you will be back up close to full 22" inch performance (2.9k).
7mmsaum, HNTMAD and Manu like this.
