    Pukeko control plan

    Hopefully the right section.

Made some new friends who have lots of pukekos on their property, who want them controlled. But in the interests of having all the boxes ticked, they would like bit of a H&S plan, so that angles covered off.

This place also has lots of pheasants, so I'm willing to jump through a hoop or two.

Wondering if anyone has a template or similar they are willing to share, so I don't have to start from scratch.

    Chur..

First issue is that pukeko are listed as game birds, so go check the season first or talk to fish&game.

F&G down here are unresponsive. I've tried calling, emailing, I even went and knocked on the door the other day. No chance.

I'm a duck shooter, so its not a matter of licensing..

Having a gamebird license is great if you want to shoot the pooks while they are flying, and with a shotgun.
I find shooting them with a 17 hornet, while they are on the ground gets the job done, at ranges that a shotgun is next to useless. Required a Fish and Game Permit, specifying the address I was shooting, the caliber I was shooting, and a justification (were pecking holes in watermelon one year, and shitting in cattle's water troughs another year).
Farmer wanted some assurances about ricochets, and safe shooting directions. Frangible bullets equaled no ricochet, and I printed out a map of his property which he detailed where the pooks reside, and I updated with safe shooting angles.
Was not overly formal, but put his mind at ease.
