    14.5" BLR on trademe

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/2721726317

14.5" barreled BLR on trademe - has anyone heard of / used a 308 that short?

I wonder what sort of performance that will give?

I saw a BLR go on trademe for $750ish recently - are the pre 81 rifles considered better or something like a JM Marlin situation?

Shit, I was offered one only yesterday for $300...pig hunter thrashed, has some problem with feeding bullets, probably dirt and punga jammed in it...I said nah but maybe I better rethink.

Just be aware a well used one will have wear on the lifter causing feed problems. A little dab of tig and polish will sort it.

I just put the tape measure on mine and measured from where the barrel starts in front of the receiver it is just over 15 inches, I have no idea what velocity I'm getting from the 178gr Hornady Precision Hunter ammo that I use but it's probably quite slow.
For point and shoot type of hunting it's no problem. Cheers

As for a 14.5" barrel, might as well use a 30-30.

My howa is 15 inches from the bolt face, sends 168 amax at 2550 and factory 150 corelokt I remember was around 2500. With my handloads using 2206h I could shoot three shots and the suppressor would be warm but with one shot of factory rounds or reloads with 2208 the supresser would be twice as hot.

Wondered how long it took to get on here, think it was on T/M a couple of weeks ago for $500 odd, that was the previous owner?

Its funny how things change. Before the gun grab these were a relatively unknown model that got very little interest on TM or topic time on here, but now.....
