    Ruger 77 Mk II Questions

Got my eye on a long action Ruger 77 Mk II

Couple of questions for folks familiar with these.

What is the magazine length (drop floorplate) on these like compared to Remmys and Tikkas ?

How easy is it to enlarge the bolt face on these from 470 to magnum boltface ? Is there enough meat there to do this safely ?

    Cheers, ebf

    Hey mate,

Have done a couple of these, one in 6.5x.284 and another in .300 Blaser Magnum.
Apparently not too difficult with the magnum, but advised to stay clear of belted magnums.
Have a chat to Hugh Bradley at Bradley Barrels, he has done both of mine.

    Cheers Craig

If you're going to the extent of enlarging bolt faces or new barrels, get all the sharp edges on the action smoothed off.

Rugers have a lot of them, especially around the bolt release, often the safety too and inside the action.

    Horrible things.

My Ruger M77 has a much shorter magazine length than my Rem 700 its a real pain in the loaded length.

@Dermastor is that a short or long action, my long actions comfortably take the 6.5x.284 and .300 Blaser Magnum.
