Thread: Warm, lightweight clothes

Hey guys off chasing tahr in beginning of May and thinking about what clothes to get as don't feel like freezing but also conscious of weight as walking in.Have merino leggings, merino icebreaker top and an underarmour 3.0 long sleeve top which is quite warm. Need to find another top that Is a compromise of quality and cost so open to recommendations. A friend has suggested the firstlite kiln Hoodie that is 250gsm.

If price is no object nothing beats the Sitka Ambient range for active insulation at the warmth to weight.
Kiln Hoodie is good for the price and I never won't own one just warmth to weight not quite on the same level.
With either piece wind is gonna cut through them so being able to chuck a puffy, rain jacket or soft shell on top would be ideal.

Jesus the ambient is well out of my price range! If I lived down south and was constantly in the cold I could justify it.
Plan was to do a good base/mid layer and have my stoney creek stowit over the top to counter wind.

Down all the way. Macpac have a clearance sale on at present which could be worth a look for you. Uber Light Hood ($115) with maybe a heavier down vest for core (Halo $125?) and/or a windproof layer on top? I have an old Sabre softshell which is prob not "light", but has done some hard yards. I'd be willing to pack a bit more weight and be warm. Where are you based? You can give it a try if you want? If it works for ya, use it for the trip, wash it, and send it back.

Although I'm not naturally found in cold climates, I am a big pussy when it comes to cold. I've found down jackets to be best bang for buck. Not actual bucks, but warmth vs weight.

Another for macpac down. If you can pick it up on sale it's a good warmth/wind layer.

Fair warning, I always sweat like a mad bastard in mine if I'm moving, they don't really breathe so unless it's super cold or you're slowly shuffling along I'd have it in a side pocket ready to go on when you stop moving.

down jackets have bt far the best warmth for weight and size you can get. also plenty of fill weight options depends on what your needing.

You'll spend a lot of time on your arse glassing, get a down jacket to keep that body heat in & a good quality woollen hat.

And something to sit on is a big help too

Have a half decent down jacket but going to take some foam to sit on too
