Yea they are solid enough and will do the job but they are heavy bulky kind of gun and just dont seem to have any life;;; in them if you keep your eye out you can get a spainish or italian fixed choke gun for not a lot more just watch what you get buy the gun not the name

It will last for more than "just a while" based on what I have seen
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

I am no expert in shotguns but from my own experience, the Baikal IZH27's are probably the best quality you will get in that price bracket. Not the most elegant but they work and they will last. Just have a look how many are still about after years of service. But they dont pop up on trade me any where near as much as the turkish and chinese offerings because people hang onto them.

I do not have any IZH27's for sale. So am not trying to sell you one. I do have the MP233 in stock but while still a Baikal, these are far more upmarket and are a Field / Trap gun and also probably out of the price range you are looking at. Ported barrels, Vented rib, not sure if it is 3 or 3.5 inch chamber, chokes, and a single (removable) trigger. More on par with the $2500 Miroko and Nikko Field trap buns but like al Baikals, price around 3/4 of the price of similar grade competition.

the baikal u/o are a very well built strong gun.in terms of an upland gun a little agricultural, but for an in the ute jack of alltrades gun, they will withstand a lot of abuse. one draw back is they are usually tightly choked.yes you can get the chokes opened, but as the bores are chrome lined for ease of maintenance, you then must run a cleaning rag through it after use.value for dollar, they are in a class by themselves.

Yep. I have had 2 and my daughter has an u/o 20 ga with screw in chokes. I modified the stock to a ladies fit. These are heavy guns, but can be made more lively by adding some weight into the butt area. The weight of the guns reduces recoil felt and at the same time increases swing inertia. Great value for money and way stronger than many flash and lighter shotguns.

My first shotgun ever, kept it in my locker at school (Hell times have changed) and we used in at the school rifle range up Main North Rd. CHCH 50 years ago mind you!!
I threw everything at that gun, rolled round in old Landrovers, crude jet boats etc.etc. it survived everything.
It was the top model, ejectors and sort of Sporting fore end. It was tight and tighter, had it opened up, an extremely reliable handy shotgun. Today if you scratch your Grade 3/7 wood on your fav Italian master piece. it's almost tear time.
Go ahead and get one, if you like game shooting and a few clay's you can look at 'specialist' guns with more knowledge down the track.
The worst thing I did was sell it, for a semi auto Breda back then.It would still be working and the best old roughy ever made!!!!

@northdude I thought you already had a shotty botty ?
I did look at the baikals when I was looking for mine, I ended up going for the Webley Scott 912, felt just right for me and wasn't as heavy as the baikal.
Grouchy Smurf had it right all along...

I have both the early model escort 3"magnum(2stage manual adjustment ) and the baikal O/U which has been opened out to 1/2 choke by C404,and contary to popular belief both these are bloody wicked
.Incidentally the latest escort shotties got bloody good reviews ,not forgetting for those of snob inclination that a lot of these turkish guns are actually the italians budget version of their own trendy ones.
Stoeger is in a similar vein.
my last buy was a wee boito gameking which I started out with in the mid 1970s as a "mitchell gamekingSxS". thats a cracker for the pigeons&rabbits.
my advice to anyone is talk to those in the know when considering a buy ,but also try guns.handle the bloody thing ,if needs be go away have a long think and come back in a weeks time and try it again.Believe me the gun you want will stick out like a dogs nuts and you'll know instinctively its the one.
