There’s some interesting articles about the DTAC. It was designed for 1:8”.
The original design has been superseded by a rebated boat tail design.
The Berger Hybrid 105gr stole the show in PRS matches because the first gen DTAC was often inconsistently manufactured, but it seems like the new generation DTAC has fixed that and is now more consistent than the Berger, and as such has staged a comeback. Reading these articles reminds me how fundamentally nerdy these fellas are...
I also did some research on the DTAC’s suitability for hunting, obviously expecting them to be wholly unsuitable. Was pretty amazed at the wounding on whitetails at extended ranges, had everything from complete fragmentation inside the chest cavity (and resultant utter destruction) to fist sized exit holes. In both instances that equated to instantly dead deer. I believe those that hunt with them trim the meplat.
Not advocating hunting with this kind of projectile, but it is worth pointing out that the energy these things carry at 600 yards is remarkable compared to lots of other heavier but low BC projectiles.
