Thread: 162gr Amax in a short barrled 7mm-08?

I've just started getting into reloading and I've been looking at projectiles for my tikka t3 7mm-08 that has a 17" barrel with a 1 in 9.5 twist rate.



In my air rifle I have found that heavy pellets have a lot more energy than standard ones and the ballistics are pretty similar with the heavy ones only dropping slightly lower.

So if the same applies to my 7mm-08 the 162gr Amax bullets should be much better for long range than the current 139gr interlocks I'm using.

I don't think I'd shoot at animals past 400m, most of my shots are 5-350m where I hunt.

I'm guessing the 162gr would go 2500 - 2600fps out of my rifle.


What are your thoughts on this? What powder would you suggest?
