    180 sst in 308

Under the watchfull eye of @Shearer and @mikee, I had a first proper go at reloading for my 308 a while ago.
Having already tried a couple of 180 sst and my rifle seeming to like them, that's what I went with, as it is a bush gun so distance shooting not an issue
I finally got round to putting a few across the chronograph today .Thanks VC.
Results were mixed on the speed front, but accuracy wise, I am happy

    8 shot group with speeds as follows;
    2359
    2409 (sticky bolt)
    2327
    2030
    2336
plus x3 shots unrecorded, maybe due to sunstrike on chrono?

Down, down, down the rabbit hole he goes. Soon all we shall see on him is the tips on his flippers

Sounds like a potential chrony issue? I'd expect closer figures with that sort of grouping.

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

Velocities are a bit inconsistent but probably right for a short barrel and heavy bullets. with a 19" barrel I get 2700 with 150 grain SST's and 45 grains of 2208.

I just weighed the remaining rounds from that loading session (my first) and there are inconsistent weights both + and -, so it is most likely down to my lack of skills rather than chrony

I should mention that I was not shooting for accuracy, just wanted to get the speed to load into strelok. The grouping was kind of accidental

The F1 is very fussy how it is set up if accurate velocities are the goal.

Firstly it must be fully opened, secondly it must be as accurately as possible aligned with the bullet path in both planes and lastly it must have consistent lighting, I have found it to vary up to 150fps with cloud disappearing and sunlight hitting it.

As long as you are aware of it and have a known load to shoot over it to compare it is ok but it is still only an indication.

Big variance can also be caused by setting it too close in the blast, 4-5meters plus seems to be ok.

Chrono was min of 5 mts from muzzle, and I ended up shading it with a sheet of cardboard as the cloud cover was sporadic. It was fully opened and on a level surface, shooting pretty much parallel to the horizontal and through centre of the chrono ( if that makes sense)
All shots taken from same position with cooling period between shots.

Yep, the F1 I use is also fussy. Distance from muzzle blast is a key.
