22 Creedmoor Hornady Factory Ammo Release

Hornady are planning to release 22 Creedmoor Factory ammo in a 80gr ELDM & ELDX. Designed to run in 1:8 twist barrels, also to work well in down to 16-18" barrel lengths.

This is great for NZ as should see some Factory rifles come out that should be matched to ammo. The fast twist heavy 22 cals are great for the sort of stuff we do here and I reckon over time will catch on.

We really tend to try and stretch the ole 223 a bit further than we should at times and these will fill a gap nicely.

A very good round, and glad to see they havent gone the 55grain route.
puts it into a diffferent category than the 22-250 when using the heavy pills.
And yes i know that a 22-250 does Exactly the same thing with heavy pills, but no one does factory twists suitable for it.
Unless you buy a fast twist 223 and rechamber and mod bolt face, feed rails etc etc.

They explained it well though, guess you can't be "everything to everyone" and took a middle route but still not just another US varmint round, just glad someone has finally started doing it and hopefully factory rifles follow at some point.

Any of the faster 22s are fine with me, just glad they picked one. Good information from the experts that if you want to run 88-95's you really want to go 1:7 and run them, if 80's 75's 1:8. Such a versatile round what you can do in different rigs.

The 22 CM with 88 ELDMs cruising at 33-3400 fps is an incredible cartridge

The 88s punch well above their weight way out to 6-700 yards on Game

I have built quite a few over the years now & they are have all shot incredibly accurately

Seems like a mistake to not offer the 88gr load.

As Greg said you can get the 88s doing well over 3200fps, 80s even faster.

You won't be buying a 22CM for high volume varmint shooting so 3500fps is totally unnecessary, especially at the expense of weight and BC, both of with reduce the energy on target.

Unless they intend to download it a bit so if can be used for varmints (while not killing your barrel in 800 rounds), but that would also be stupid

he says as much at the end.... the comparisons are a bit unfair....would be interesting to see it apples with apples...but thats always the way,as has been said, hard to find/buy a faster twist 22-250

There is no doubt a fast twist 22-250 is awesome, so is a 22-250 AI and a 22-243 is awesomer but I prefer the 22 CM using SRP 6CM Lapua brass

A fast twist with 88 ELDM/90 A-Tip is are incredible performer, not that difficult (once you have your stuff together) to shoot rabbits etc at silly long ranges with no recoil

Factory rifles & ammo will be a revelation to many, if they are brave enough
