    .270 and heavy(ish) bullets

Just been watching a few YouTube channels, particularly on the 250 Savage and the 270WSM. Now there are a few guys on there pushing the weight limits on the .270 WSM and even in the bog standard 270W and getting the Nosler 165 Accubond LR and 170 Nosler 170 BT to stabilise, they are shooting in mild temperatures around 15C and at around 400m above sea level, no luck with the 175 gameking though they just keyhole. Anyway, not that it's probably needed in NZ but has anyone tried the heavier projectiles in their. 270? And Micky I'm not talking about those round nose things you use. If you do can you direct me to somewhere I can purchase some please.

    Thanks.

Heaviest I used were 150ts, much more effective on game then the 130ts.

biggest issue is the 1;10 twist rate
with the 6.8spc and spc11 there are now faster twist rates....we just havent really seen them used much yet.
Ryan Songhurst built a 270nosler some years back to chuck big bullets fast...
your only feasible option in the 1;10 is the nosler partition in 160grn..... debatable if its better than the awesome150grn.
right I shall but out now LOL

No Micky, these guys are shooting 1/10 twist, so it works. I just want some validation from someone in NZ and somewhere to buy some.

I put some 170 EOL through my 85 finnlight 270wsm (10 twist) and they shot OK just couldn't get them going much quicker than 2600 without getting pressure, I'm sure the case was capable I just didn't have a suitable powder at the time and was really only doing it for shits and giggles

    Greetings all,
I do find it amusing that a fast twist .270 WCF is greeted with so much fuss when Wilhelm Brenneke had completed all the work by 1917 in his 7x64. This cartridge has projectiles up to 174 grains stabilized by a 1 in 220mm twist (8.66"). The .270 was clearly a rough copy of the earlier cartridge. Both the .270 and 7x64 plus the .30-06 were all descendants of the 7.92mm (8 x57) from 1888.
    Regards Grandpamac.

the comment has been made before that there is not much around and certainly nothing in New Zealand that will walk away from a well placed 150grn partition..I only use the 170grn speers because I can..Ive got them and normally they are used under 100yards.
