270 powder

I've been using Winchester 760 in my 270win but it is hard to get hold of atm. Should I just buy some 2209 or is there something else you recommend that is in stock? I don't use the 270 as much now that I have a 223 but still have a few 140g Interloks I want to get loaded up.
What's your thoughts?

2209 for up to 130gr.

2217 for 140-150gr.

2213sc does OK with either.

I load a buddy's 20 inch tikka 270win,
60.0 grains of H4831sc
130grain Nosler BT
3050fps

Kills things very well out beyond 400m

Hodgdon Superperformance works well in the .270 especially with 145 eldx

The real secret sauce for a 270 is reloder 23. If you can find any..

2208 may not be the best performing powder, but it can be used in a hell of a lot of cartridges.

4064 as well.

How many Interlocks are you loading up? I just bought a kg of 2209, more than I need right now, if you are coming up to Chch I could just sell you enough for what you want at pro-rata rate... if its less than 100 projectiles anyway...

2213sc for any but work particularly well with 140gr and up.

2217 works well with 140 - 150gr also.

Quite a few votes for 2213. How well would this work with 110g hp varmint? They are very effective on wallabies at 300m.

In terms of burn rates, 2209 is fastest, then 2213, then 2217 slowest.

Look at the data posted by Oldbloke. You can see how the slower powders give better speeds with heavier bullets and faster powders give better speeds with lighter bullets.

2213 kinda sucks a bit IMO, because it doesn't really give much more speed than 2209 (one exception there being the 150gr Hornady SP), despite using ~10% more powder.

Dropping to 110gr, you might find that 2208 (even faster than 2209) would be right up there with 2209 as well. Maybe even a little better. There's less than 100fps difference between the two at 135gr in that screenshot...

Look at the current ADI data on their website. It tells you which of the powders are going to be best suited to what you're doing.

Just my experience, but ive never achieved the velocities others claim with the slower powders. 2209 on the other hand specifically around 54gr has always worked well for me in different rifles and different projectiles of the 130gr class.

Thanks Pommy, I'll have a look at the ADI site and see what will suit most.
Maybe I ditch the 140 Interloks and buy some 110g copper bullets. I want something to use on tahr and red stags though.
