    270wsm loads

Interested in hearing what people are loading in the 270wsm. Bought some new norma brass today and want to start some load development loads while I wait for new rifle to turn up.
Im really wanting to use a 150gr projectile, the 150 LRABs went really well in my 270win, but they are a bit hard to come by, which is a pain in the ass when you really need them, so my next choice would probably be 150 VLDs as I think I can source them easier.
Want a bit of an allround load 100-600+ yds, Camois, Tahr, Reds, how do the VLDs go up close? I was worried with the LRABs but they performed brilliantly up close and out far.
I also have 150 sst, 150 gmx, 140 interlock, and 130 VLDs on hand to try, but to make the most of the increased case capacity over the 270win I really think I should be sticking with something in the 150gr range.
Also interested in powder and primer choice, i have 2209, 2213sc, 2208, N560, W760, W780 on hand but I could get something else if none of the above are really suitable.
I have traditionally used CCI200 primers for everything, should I be using a magnum primer?
    Cheers for any advice.

i used 69gr of ar2209, federal 215 magnum primers with 150gr noslers, they were going 3050 fps from my tikka. dropped red deer out to 600yards every time(600 was the furthest i had tried). i regret selling that rifle every day.

Loading 150 VLD's over 2213 in Norma brass with Fed 210's for my boys .270 WSM - no need for mag primers in a WSM.

140 and 150 VLD's do the job on heavy bodied Tahr at 30yds and at 500yds, the only 130gn you want to use inside 200yds has to be the TTSX or Interbond, that weight bullet is too fast if fully loaded. The 150 VLD does the job on light bodied stuff like Wallabies too, close and far

I've got a bit of data now for 140 NBT and 130 Corlockt (sp?).

2217 and N560 have been good with 140. Finer accuracy with 2217, little bit more speed with N560. 3158fps with 2217 and easy 3180 with N560. Both group under .75 MOA.

For the 130grn I just did one test with the dirty old corlockt, and used Hybrid V100. It went straight to 3200fps and no pressure. I'm sure it will be good for another grain and close to 3,300fps. The one group I shot was great. All touching.

I'm using Federal Magnum match primers. Only match because that's what I bought a heap of during the shortage when they came available.
Federal brass too, but it gets brittle quickly and splits necks. Can't be bothered annealing so am trying Remington, although I have since noticed Norma is the same price per 50.

For 150 grn I've only used Federal Fusion factory. Grouped at under an inch and chronoed at 3,140fps. I didn't think I could match that hand-loading so if I need 150 grn I will use them. They go right through deer and hammer them down.
    So do the 140 NBT.

Are CCI200s going to be a bit cold? Should I go to 210s or federal 215s? I went and bought 4000 of the 200s so have a few to use....

I have only used the magnum cci primers for the wsm. But did intend to try out the cci200 primers to lower es. However I changed from AR2213SC to AR2225 and that made the difference

Shot 150VLD's out a Rem700 for several years with great results from 10m to over 600m. You shouldn't have a problem with these.

    CCI250 large mag primers
71gn of Retumbo gave over 3100fps (but work you max load out yourself and don't star with this this)

Pretty of deer fell to this load.

So I have struck what could possibly be a problem, working up loads using new Nosler brass and 2225 with the 150VLDs, book max is 70gr but even at 68gr I am getting compressed loads, I am seating the projectiles reasonably far out at mag length 2.930, just how much can I compress? I also have some new Winchester brass here which seems to have a tiny bit more capacity but is also compressing at 68grs. Any ideas?

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

Use a long tube between the funnel and the case. It allows the powder to fill the case better. Sometimes called a drop tube.

Right all loaded up, I have 130VLDs in front of 2213 @ 65grs, 66grs, 66.5grs and 67grs, OAL@2.80, and both 150VLDs and LRABs in front of 2225 @ 68grs, 69grs, 69.5grs and 70grs OAL@2.890 I did have them at 2.930 which is the max in my mag but they feed much nicer at 2.890
Hopefully my suppressor turns up tommorow and I will test and chronograph all loads over the weekend.

Right, everything is sorted and I'm ready to hunt. Have settled on 150gr VLD, 70.5gr 2225 and federal magnum match primer, gives me 1/2" consistently and some even smaller groups when I really concentrate. Everything confirmed out to 650yds on steel, speed is 3180fps
