is it as easy as getting my chamber reamed to make it a 280 rem? i know its based on a 30-06 case which if im not mistaken has the same case diameter as a 308, 7mm08, so my extractor should still work. my rifle is a single shot so no need to worry about mag.

It is that simple, ream it, headspace and done. But unless you have a "proper length" barrel, don't bother.
