    300 cal twist

Without going into details, for a hunting rig, will a 1:12 twist be ok for a larger 30 cal.
    300 win mag for example.
Not worried about gongs at 1000 yards, 200grainers (probably less maybe 180s max) for a LR hunting set up 500yds tops.
    factory ammo only
    Thoughts?

As mentioned 10 would be much better.

You might get away with 180s with a 12 twist but unless they are pretty short I doubt a 200 will work very well.

    200gr probably a bit heavy.

I had a TrueFlite 12 twist barrel that stabilized 185 Berger Juggernauts against everything the twist theory calculation said...

The Juggernauts are a rounder, fat projectile than the Hybrids, so projectile shape probably has something to do with it as well...

yup that sounds pretty much what my internet research is coming up with. length of bullet etc can come into it as well
1:10 the best all round. TBH hunting loads only so 180s tops really.
anyone tried it for real though?

180s should be fine and plenty heavy for most things. You will probably be able to shoot 130s at lazer speeds also (if that floats your boat). my 1:10 twist didn't like anything less than 150s.
If I get another 300WM it will need to shoot the new 200+gr projectiles.... because they look cool.

I run ELDM 208 with 1-11 twist in 24inch barrel at 3000fps and 178 ELDX at 3200. No problems at all....apart from a wee bit of recoil.
    Plenty enough for +700m

1-12" twist is marginal for accuracy (borderline stable) for most high BC 180gr range projectiles. A true 1-11" or faster would be a better choice. I have a 1-12" twist Kreiger sitting idle because of this

Wasnt quite meant that way lol. More for about the hunting part.
The members who have responded have always given good advice.
If I wasnt trying to talk myself into this barrel i probably wouldn't have even have commented again lol
I suppose it isnt worth having a 300 mag if you cant nudge 200 plus grainers one day.

FAAAAAAAAA That's some serious muzzle energy right there. The new projectiles have seriously good BC Numbers so it's not wasted.

One day I WILL get another.

Get it then and have a play. You could try to wear some 110 grain projectiles off in the rifling

Let us know how you go. Like most 308 caliber pill throwers, you can have a mountain of fun with reloading 300 WM. So many options.
