Thread: .300WM 212eldx powder question

Picked up a 300 recently which had a load developed with RL26 and 212 eldx at 2958fps. Looking to move to a more obtainable powder which would seem to be H1000 or cheaper option AR2217. Has anyone tried the 2 powders back to back? Seems strange to have such a big price difference on the 2.

Running Hornady brass and thinking I’ll end up somewhere around 75-76gns and hopefully come out around 2900fps. 26” 1:10 barrel with brake.

I’ve had a bit of a search around here and web but it’s not easy to find depending on the key words people have used so any info or tips would be appreciated.

H1000 is AR2217. Hodgdons import it from Oz, pack it and send it back to NZ. Use either the online data from ADI or Hodgdons. they are exactly the same.

In my 300WM I use both RL26 and 2217 but with the 200 gr ELDX both loads achieve similar velocity. 2217 at 77.5 grs gives an average of 2834.1 fps and RL 26 at 74 grs gives 2820.7 fps. 22 inch barrel.
So I guess your case using 212 gr bullets you should be able to get close to RL 26 velocity using 2217.

Yep I had read that just couldn’t figure out the price difference but shipping across the world twice would do it. Unfortunately both ADI and Hodgdon only list the 208eldm which I believe is shorter or different in shape? Not sure if the load data max would be the same. The Hornady manual lists H1000 but recommends 3.5” coal where I’m limited to 3.469”. Might turn in to some trial and error just didn’t want to buy different powders trying to get it right.
