    303 vs 308

    Slightly tongue in cheek

    I know the answer already
And despite spending the entire day in the Workshop restoring a vintage Stevens 44 1/2 38-50
I was playing with 303 brass to make the 38-50 cases
So 303 has been on my mind all day
I really do need a vintage single shot 303 and need to make it happen

So this post will be like giving drugs to an addict !

Martini Enfield with replacement woodwork would be a nice stalking rifle.

Plenty of sporterised ones floating about, few with decent bores though.

    Missing one critical part

For me a hunting single shot needs an exposed hammer
I like how it works with one in the chamber and the hammer at half cock
Very fast and easy to use
    The ultimate safety catch

Well clearly everyone is happy with the 303 and no defenders of the 308 onboard

So this is my short list of proper single shot 303s

    A British proofed 1885 Winchester

A Remington Sporting #5 Rolling Block

    A Field's Patent falling block

Any other 303 single shot with exposed hammer can join the list

@akaroa1 Its your lucky day! There are two .303 no 5 sporting rolling blocks in the ruahine antique arms auction in January if you really want one.

That looks stunning. Always thought they would be quite a cool rifle but that is just wicked.

You can "half cock" a Martini Henry.
Alas I'm not sure you own enough Tweed for me to tell you however.
