    308 brass to 7mm08

I am about to get a tikka 7mm08, do reload rather factory. looked through most shops, most components are either not cheap or not there. saw some 308 palma case, thinking of turning them into 7mm08, wonder has anyone here done it successfully , does it require a bit of neck turning?

    Greetings @holdover,
Yes I have done it with Winchester brass with no problems. The cases lengthen a little in the neck but are still within the length for the 7mm-08. The Palma cases may have thicker necks but should still be fine. If you can use a neck die rather than a FL die and do any load development using once fired brass.

If you want to use .308 brass, one pass through a fls die, load and shoot. Do it frequently when feeling tight.

    Yeah ofcorse it’s do able
But as others have said why just get 7-08
    but yes simple answer is
Yes just full length size 308 brass in a 708 die and your done
Shouldn’t need neck turning unless you have a tight tolerance chamber
I would recommend annealing the brass before and after as you are working the brass harder than normal

There was a story, some years back, of someone using small rifle primers in their .308 hunting loads and having misfires in really cold weather (click and no bang). I don't know whar powder they were using.

GPM I think that may be unother urban myth and there is probably other causes present ie primers not fully seated.
However, having said that, I have read in the Oz target shooting of shooters claiming poor ignition using Palma brass and std primers. Hence some use magnum primers. This story emerges on a semi regular basis so I have to admit there may be something to it.

I have been using Palma brass now since 2019 (admittedly not in freezing cold weather) and have had no problems. My ESs are lowered over std brass however my ave velocity is down a tad, nothing significant.

I also have Peterson SRP brass but have yet to try it.

And as you are aware primers brand to brand and sometimes within brands have differing brisance. Misfires or poor ignition may be due to using a primer with lower spark energy. Who knows.

i happen to reload 6.5 crd using srp in peterson case, 100m producing 1/2 moa constantly. i am pretty confident they work well in 308. i want a longer lasting barrel but(not a meat killer), mild recoid. the 7mm08 seems to fit all that.
