    50grn fmjhp

bought a box of 50 rounds of .222remington today...cause the price was ok at $56 and was puzzled as heck by what the projectiles actually are...and its boxer primed brass..so 50 new brass for me!!!!
funky looking wee suckers, brass colour the same as the case ..cant find much information about this fiocchi round other than a slamming of its in accuracy in .223
worst case..I will pull them and replace with ZMAX 50grn.. but will be intriguing to find out a bit more about them.
now fmj I understand..full metal jacket and hp =hollow point so I guess I will have to sacrifice one to work out just what they have done as the two dont normally exist together..if its hp its NOT full /complete metal jacket
anyone know anything or have tried them???

Not sure that's any help? Doesn't explain them though

It's a weird way of describing it. With typical military fmj the cup is drawn from front to back the core inserted from the rear and swagged leaving the a small section of the core exposed it your typical 303 mk vii.
Hunting and match bullets have the cup drawn the opposite way ie the base is solid and the core is inserted via the open nose which is then swagged to final shape. A lot of these match bullets like the sierra smk have pinhole size hollow points and I believe that the us army successfully argued for their use in sniper ammunition on that basis.

They have a thick jacket that won't deform easily, if the tip won't open/deform then it's not an expanding projectile. But FMJ? I have to agree HP "Match" would be a beter description.

So in interests of science, sharing knowledge...ok I was bored and just HAD to know. Brass jacket not copper 5 mm hollow in tip so in theory they should be stable and may even tumble. I poked one into Bench grinder to expose its secrets, took it back a little then ran very fine drill bit in to see what story is. Definately NOT fmj and possibly won't expand worth a damn either.might have to open them all up lol

Test a couple in wet phone books I'm picking they might tumble like that yellow box Norinco stuff did, that was a proper fmj and it was excellent

We used to drill them for goat hunting. Unfortunately it tended jut to peel open and the core would separate causing inconsistent wounding. 303 amd 308 fmjs weren't any better.

There's quite a bit too the design of good hunting bullets and modding fmj's is not a great way to go. Keen to see how the 222's go, they might still work on something small like the pesky australians.
