    6.5 Creedmoor, 143gr ELDX & Superformance

Anyone experimented with this combination? Ran a powder charge ladder for shits & giggles this sunday just gone & got some rather surprising results that i did not expect. Makes me wonder why i bother having a 6.5 PRC in the safe. Either that or this batch of lapua brass is way tougher than the last & im overpressure although the primers say otherwise.

What sort of velocitys & accuracy are you guys seeing with this combination?

Cool. im hoping @25/08 IMP may chip in with his thoughts.

For some context - hornady book max is 44.7gr ~ 2800fps in a 24" bbl & hodgdon is 45.8gr for 2800fps. My rifle is a 24" 1/8 Tikka & i ran a ladder all the way up to 48.5gr which gave an average of 2971fps, very faint swipe on the brass at that, bolt still nice to lift. Way above and beyond the suggested book max for both charge and suggested speed yet the brass is suggesting things are fine at 48gr & 2950fps. Shot .4 moa at this too.

Im a bit baffled because 1 - its way above and beyond what it should be able to do, and 2 - its going faster than my 6.5 PRC current load with the same projectile (albeit the prc load isnt overly greedy and is with 2217).

Yeh, I believe we’re at 2812 with Superformance in my 18” 260, no signs of pressure.
Yours is up there but if your reading the signs then possibly ok? I’d be happy to be below where I’m at with these 143’s as they are a great killer and accurate.

Yeah, i have no intention of actually running this load as ill be running 97gr hammers with this rifle. Just loaded some up out of interest to see how they did compared to my old 18" creedmoor and got quite a shock.

Hi I have run Hodgdon superproformance in the Creedmoor and .260 it's a bloody good powder.
I'm getting 2810fps with the 143 ELDX in Laupa SRP cases and same speed in Danny's Tikka .260 with same combo

@Pommy thats super interesting. I had a feeling it must be overpressure for it to be doing what its doing. Interestingly i have just gone through the brass from the weekend, Faintest of swipe on the 48.5gr load, i just cleaned measured sized & re primed them & the primer pockets are still nice and tight. Worth noting in my last creedmoor which was a tikka aswell but with a different batch of lapua brass, i didnt get anywhere near this powder charge before seeing pressure, looking through my old notes just on 46.5gr was a stiff bolt & ejector swipe. Wonder if theres some variance in the strength of brass batch to batch making it harder to use the brass as a sign of being overpressure?

Yep it's a good combination and all I use as it works so well. Superformance is a bit heat sensitive so if you are running fairly hot just be a bit aware on a hot day. I think mine's 2840 out of a 19in Ruger American predator. Just sighted in with a new scope a couple of months ago with 8 rounds into about a 15 to 20mm red dot so the combo works well.

My Creedmoor is 20" and the .260 18" I'm also loading RL 26 for the same fps

Dunno mate. But signs on brass are the last resort method of inferring pressure for exactly this reason.

Pressure signs highlight what the weakest link is and you know that if you push it, that's probably gonna be your first point of failure. But it doesn't give you a reliable indicator of what actual pressure this is happening at.

Anyway, your PRC will deliver that kinda performance without wringing the piss out of it - with a cooler burning, temp stable extruded powder.
