So who's running one of these I'm not interested in a long barrel version but around 20" to 22" I'm wanting to to know actual speeds etc to see if there is any advantage over the .260 or Creedmoor.

Not much increase in performance over a 6.5-284 to be fair but you can buy extremely accurate high BC factory ammo for it if you don't reload, this will be the next 6.5 Creedmoor.
I have built a few now, more in the process, here are some of them
24" Bartlein #RM https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....6-5-prc-48437/
24" Proof Research https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co..../6-5prc-54601/
28" Proof Research https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....6-5-prc-58520/
18" #2B Bartlein https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....6-5-prc-55795/
Very impressive. Why doesn’t Sako get their A into G...
Would love to see a 6.5 Blaser!
For comparison I am running a 22 inch creedmoor at 2810 with the 147 eld-m for good accuracy.
I’m not normally a follower of cartridge fashion (I have 7RM and .300WM rifles), and the new, super kids on the block like 6.5 Creedmoor leave me cold.
But......... 6.5 PRC has my attention. I don’t have a 6.5 and fancy one in a light, shortish, Hunter configuration for tops hunting. A 20 inch barrel seems about right for me to give good velocity whilst remaining light and handy. 6.5 PRC fits the bill perfectly for that job.
I remember some years ago forum member Bob had a 6.5-.300 RCM made and I was interested then. I think it’s the next thing to sit in my cabinet.
Yes, but that’s factory ammo, which is very good, but 3000 should be achievable with hand loads in 22 inch barrels.
Just do one cause they are cool ,I recon u would find a load to get 3000fps out of a 20"

Why chase a few extra ft/sec and wreck brass and barrel life? My 6.5 is running at 2,800fps and kills shit very dead at 5, 6, 700m.
SAUM has more case capacity than PRC by 5-6gr (might even be more). SAUM has a rebated rim/fatter body than PRC but the same length overall.
My 6.5 SAUM is running just short of 3k with 147gr ELD-M out of 22" barrel. Mild load using 2217 rather than a double base powder. I'm sure 3k+ would be achieved with RL26 or maybe N565. Both are hard to come by down South.
I have a 22" PRC in bound and expect basically the same performance. I've got another PRC barrel being chambered for my comp rifle (heavy, long barrel) so reducing brass and dies and potential for mixing brass by using same calibre.
On Long Range Only, Broz has a 20" PRC using 156gr Berger's at just over 2.9k. That's a pretty decent step up in performance over a Creedmoor.

Yes I stand corrected, grabbed some cases to check them & found 3.4 grains, ADG will be different
6.5 PRC Hornady brass 68.6 grains H2O
6.5-280AI Federal brass 72.0 grains H2O
6.5 SAUM Nosler brass 72.0 grains H2O
6.5 WSM Norma brass 79.0 grains H2O
6.5 Blaser Norma brass 82.6 grains H2O
6.5-375R Hornady brass 96.9 grains H2O
26 Nosler Norma brass 100.6 grains H2O
My mates 6.5 prc blaser does just over 2800 FPS nice setuphttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4c95d0474d.jpg

Was real keen on a 6.5 PRC (still am) until someone put me on to Fairy Dust (RL26) and said to go with what I have.
Have 2 x 260 Ackleys now. One in a Blaser and the other in Deviant action.
Both have nearly the exact same numbers thru 23" barrels with a 130 berger.
Admittedly not using 140-150 grn projectiles but for a lot less powder, a reasonbly high BC 130grn projectile that kills well at just over 3100fps is very useable for hunting inside 500 yards.
Still only neck sizing after 4-5 loads on both Lapua and Norma brass so it is definitely better on brass than my previous load. Barrel life will/maybe suffer a bit more but they should both out live me in a hunting rifle.
Surely a 6.5 PRC could get there with a slightly heavier projectile and shorter barrel, all things considered?
Be an ideal PRS caliber.

My 6.5prc does a little over 3150 fps
Few detail @Larskramer projectile type weight powder barrel length please and thankyou
Built by greg at terminator, 26" bartlein barrell, rl26 , hornady brass with 143g eldx.
@Gusto who did the barrel for him?
So what I am gleaning is that I might as well stay with my 270 with 140's at 3100 vs a PRC 140's at 3000 with 22 inch barrels. For all the fuss a PRC is only as good as the geriatric 270 and probably wont kill quite as well, being a slightly smaller diameter.
Yeh it’s a valid point you make though. The difference between.270 and 6.5 is a fraction and pushing one harder then the other confuses things so I think very valid.
I’d say and what interests me is that performance from an 18” in PRC, certainly a do it all cartridge for NZ conditions. For me anyway.

What about the 150gr lrabs out of the 270 at 3000 + ?
I am sure that out past 500 the 6.5 would be flatter and retain more HP, but if someone wants to ethically shoot past 400 meters I think it is time for them to buy something bigger
The GAP Saum looks to be a noticeable step up going on what's written in this thread
The market is cluttered with useful calibers on the same spectrum. I would like a 6.5PRC but have a 270WSM and a 7mmSAUM. Same but different. Doesn't mean I won't buy a PRC though.
I'm just an age-ed slut :)
