First I must apologise to @Fisherman for hijacking his thread and in penance offer the following. It doesn't matter if you use the 6.5 or 7mm, they are pea's in a pod for any practical purpose so use what you like.
Getting back to the discussion on AI cartridges I did a bit of number crunching with the following results. It is hard to get pressure tested data of the same vintage for standard and AI cartridges but they do exist for the .280. I selected data using a new powder, IMR4451 and the 140 grain Nosler Partition and BT respectively. The relationship between pressure, velocity and powder charge is linear at normal pressures so it is possible to interpolate (calculate) all between start and max loads. Max pressure for the .270 and .280 AI is 65,000 PSI and the .280 only 60,000 PSI. Most handload data is a little under this so I calculated the powder charge needed and velocity for the AI at 280 max pressure. The velocity was near the same for both cartridges but the AI needed an extra grain of powder to get there. The .280 AI max load gained about 70 fps in velocity for another 1.3 grains of powder so most, if not all of this gain would apply to the standard .280 if loaded to AI pressure. This is what has been found in other pressure tested comparisons between standard and AI cartridges that I have read over the years.
Getting back to the .270 as this is already loaded close to 65,000 PSI the AI version loaded to the same pressure does not gain 400 fps, or 100 fps but somewhere between 30 fps and nothing at all. Some will dispute this but the pressure tested data is clear.

the std .270w will gain that amount if you gave it another few inches of barrel too.....4-6" longer would make a hell of a lot of difference,oh so many have been knee capped with 21" from factory.

or a suppressor..... the big plus to .308 is the ease of finding components and that wont change in a hurry.

I see your point Fisherman...but for me as its ALWAYS going to be under 350.... yeah the options to do it ethically and cleanly are much easier.

162eldm out of a tikka at 2770fps, truth is it probably has more killing power than the prc.

That would certainly do the business! Is the 284 similar weight to the 6.5*55 or lighter/heavier?

Well, just received "Bronco's" specials for the week, every rifle is in 6.5 cal, doesn't that tell something.

that no one has bought any lately as no ammunition or components ,so they are trying to flog them off quick smart perhaps????

I love my 6.5 and I've had a few, not as many as @buzzman though.
I just shot a big red hind not at really long range 320M but in one side of the lower chest and out the other.
The 143 eldx left a massive blood trail, I've often thought about a 6.5 PRC but when my Creedmoor is doing 2811fps with the ELDX I don't really need one.

Really starting to like my 6.5PRC. It’s so easy to shoot it’s not funny. Two deer from two shots in the weekend, 380 and 440m respectively. Shot at a third which was a touch over 500m, but dialled in one MOA shy and shot under it. Bit of pressure right on dark with deer running in all directions. Bullet hole in the grass bank the next morning confirmed my mistake. Had 5 kids and 3 adults frantically telling me what to do mind you

Ran the numbers at the moderate velocities I would load for the PRC and 284. At 700 yards (which is as far as I would ever shoot in perfect conditions) the PRC is about 200fps and 200 foot pounds ahead with pretty much identical recoil. I suspect the extra velocity trumps the 17% smaller hole at that distance so the PRC is on top. The extra barrel life of the 284 is really important to me and I'm terrified of the wife anyway, so 284 it is.

.284 is my favourite too.
