Hi Guys
I'm getting a mate into reloading for his 6.5x55 Swede.
Any tips for a great starter load for use on deer and goats ?
Any help greatly appreciated.
I could go down the path of load dev for him - but I'm really just being lazy

I could talk for ages on loading for the swede, I've used one as my main rifle for 6+ years reloading for it the whole time
He needs to work out what he wants out of it: soft recoiling loads? Hard fast heavy-as-possible loads?
The 6.5 will kill very well at low velocity 120gn SP @ 2600~FPS and lightning quick with a 140gn Amax @ 2750~FPS but with more recoil and noise.
I should add - he's recently had the Rifle suppressed - so recoil is now a lot less of an issue ...
The 140 Amax sounds like it could be good for him ...
.. T
for a big game centrefire there isnt much more recoil with a modestly pushed 140 than a 243
140gr softpoint and half to one grain below box max would be my pick

My husky really liked a load of 42.4gr of ADI 2209 behind a 139gr SP. I used Highland projectiles first and they worked well as did the Speer. Admittedly I get the same results from Sellior and Bellot factory ammo so did not bother much after that.
Most important question, is it a Swede or a modern rifle in the same calibre?
Good question.. It's a tikka t3. What else![]()
