Hi all,
Im relaoding for my 7m mrem mag and I'm getting a speed of 2660fps and like a laser at 100m.
Is this to slow, it certainly kills stuff.
Load data.
Hornady 162eldx

It shoots nicely out of my tikka, little recoil with a Maniatis suppressor with a brake.
Hey Darryn,
Lots more experienced reloaders out there than me but I used to load for a rem mag. Firs question would be: what do you want to achieve? And second question is what length barrel?
Either way, looks like you're running a low charge weight according to ADI load data so plenty of room for you to safely test some different powder charges if you want to. If reloading is new to you, read some manuals and have a chat to some experienced people before you start fiddling.
Hmmmm that powder charge SEEMS light.....as in that's 130grn 270w load level. But as you say it's accurate and kills stuff. I'm often known to type " many a great load ruined by chronograph" your perfect example of this lol.
75/15/10 black powder matters
Hi,
Cheers for the quick reply. It’s a 24 inch barrel. I want to achieve accuracy with good stopping power. A mate and I were talking about it today, it seems others are getting way faster speeds. I’m no speed junkie, accuracy is key for me along with good case longevity.
Cheers, Darryn
Cheers, I feel the same way about the chrono. There’s a real noticeable jump in recoil even with 63 grains of powder and far less accurate. Like the shots are touching at 100m currently.
Cheers Darryn
Wise fella ( may have been Chinese) was often heard to mutter while pulling beard " if it not broke, don't fook around with it" .

You could likely get up to around 3050 but the gais are largely academic if you have the accuracy you want there. I run same projectile same speed in different cartridge and have cleanly dropped reds over 500m incl big red stag
There is also a current conversation on it here https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....-loads-113691/
I ended up settling on 162gr A-Max with 72gr 2217 for just over 3000FPS out of a 22 inch Tika 7RM.
Work up for your rifle. Mistakes can be made typing numbers in![]()
Sell it and buy a 7mm08 because that is what you have got. Factory ammo would be faster. Go up in .5gr increments until you see some sort of pressure sign and then come back down a tad and then tune it for accuracy
You should 3 grand with that barrel length and bullet weight. If you can't get accuracy going faster then swap powder or bullet. Worst come to worst you can go back to the slow accurate load
Yes it's slow for a Rem Mag. You can probably get close to 3K if you wanted.
Is it too slow? That's your call.
If it shoots straight and kills what you want it to then I think you've answered your own question.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds
I've just been working up loads for my new 24" rem mag using 162eldm with 2217 I get 3040fps and 2225 I get 3100fps.
I don't think 4831 is the best powder if you are wanting more speed you need a slower powder.

I made up a batch of super faffed 7mmRM rounds for my mates to play with at the range. Turned the necks, dropped the charge down to about 62 if I recall. But the guys got excellent precision with them and both said it was a joy to shoot. Main problem with shooting the RM full power is that it's a long barrel, fairly tight twist. You will get torque which is OK if you're prone. But offhand? Gonna be trickier than most to keep shooting it accurately
