7mm rem mga is is too slow

The Hodgdons data gives 64 grains of H4831SC (AR2213SC) as a max load with the Hornady 162 grain BTSP. This projectile is very close to the one you are using. This is by no means a hot load and should produce around 2,800 fps in your rifle. 60 grains is the Hodgdons start load and your velocity is reasonably close to theirs. Most load data for the 7mm Rem mag was dialled back considerably a few decades back after the change to modern pressure measurement so most loads for the calibre are mild. But as you say your loads kill well and the choice of whether to increase the load is yours.

Yeah it shoots well but was thinking it might be running slow. I can always ping back to my slow load if I'm not happy, might try a load with 2217.

H1000 (AR2217) was like a bolt of lightning when it arrived on the market around 30 or so years back. ADI started making it as AR2217 around 2,000 or a little earlier. Factory velocities could now be achieved without high pressures. H4831SC (AR2213SC) is aa good as it ever was as you discovered if you are not chasing velocity.

So the guys who own land cruisers can't drive to dairy to get an icecream???? And fellas with Honda City should tow boat/ caravan.... Lol it's same old argument....small outboard motors are the same.the 8hp is a 15 under spec d so they last forever.its not working hard so it doesn't wear out as fast.a full noise 7 mm mag can be unpleasant to use. Running it at half throttle,if it does job needed isn't silly. There are a hell of a lot of guys with 3 1/2" shotguns who now run mostly 2 3/4" shells for same reason.

Very slow for a rem mag of that barrel length. I wouldn’t be happy with that as you might aswell have a 7mm08 in that case. I would be working towards more speed. For a 24” barrel I would be happy enough with anything accurate 2900+ minimum.

Couldn't help myself, punched the numbers into GRT and its pretty close to what you are getting. Personally I agree that having an easier shooting accurate load is more important than speed/power, if for no other reason it gives you the confidence of shot placement. If you want more speed you could see if it finds good accuracy at a higher load, but who knows - boat tail projectiles can be more fussy than flat base, right? So it might just open up, but only really one way to find out. As mentioned max. book load with that powder is 64gn.

Cheers everyone food for thought. It isn’t broke right now, shoots like a dream, but always wondered if it was a bit slow. I’m gonna get some 2217 and see how that goes.

AR 2225 works well as well if you are having trouble finding 2217.
