gday guys, does anyone on here know anything about load data, recipies etc for a 7mm 338 norma mag imp?
Try doing a search on here and see what comes up.
Otherwise I think tuiman has had a play with one.
or search 284 Jazz pretty much the same thing. Should be a bit of info on Longrangehunting.com Duley's version is 7mm Fatmax.
hahaha its a bit like that really, just wandering if theres anyone using this calibre and what they are running
yea same as the fatmax
I was using 180gr Berger Hybrid Match projectiles in my 7RUM (pretty much same velocity) and found them a bit hard. Killed the animal but didn't seem to drop them on the spot like the 168 bergers in my 7 rem mag.
yea im currently using 180 bergers at 3200 ish and they seem to kill very good.
VLD's
I do realise everything you just said and its not what i asked for. Also i realise you dont like wildcats and thats cool with me matey, but I was really just asking for other peoples loadings not the rubbish you have just blabbled on about. Thanks anyway
I have a 300 Norma mag so you're parent case and use adi 2225
Cheers Cam,
I was using US869 in my 7RUM about 100gr with the 180 berger, you will be about there somewhere as the case capacity is pretty much identical. ADI 2225 will give similar results, but more pressure and some say the tubular grains are harder on the barrel then the poppy seed size 869 granules.
Weapon was born

Afternoon Pongo,
Knowing a little bit of the firearms history would be helpful to us as different 7mm norma mag "imp" builders push their reamers different depths.
The "gunsmith" that built it has a moral obligation to provide at least basic reloading info for its new owner, and if you are not its first owner then that data will/should be on file.
Its not a chambering for the feint hearted, pressure builds extremely quickly, powder bridging can be an issue with some powder choices as can a few other things
A rebarrel to 30cal solves a few problems and going 338 solves all of them.
Are you considering the chambering or have you purchased a rifle in this chambering ?
If abe built it he would be able to supply you
All load data?
If you can get hold of the little bastard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @tui_man2
sorry for the slow reply guys. Cheers for the info greg etc. It is a brand new build by abe, 24 inch bartlein, kiwi stock, hardy action, elite trigger, braked with a 2-20 zeiss. I chose it because of its light weight etc for on the hills. and he has given me a few different recipies to try and what not. haha he is reasonably hard to track down at times. Currently using 96grns of us869. Thought it would be worth while asking on here for different brews, what works for others that run a screamer/fatmax. cheers
Pongo12,
That rifle sounds like a nice build, US869 is good powder in the 7mmRUM that was Stugs I am getting 3250 @ 25degrees with the 180s but get velocity changes of about 100fps when the temp go down to 10degrees so come winter/first frosts it may be worth checking that out, just a thought(good excuse for more shooting).
The 180 VLDs that you are using are they the hunting ones? And what distance are you getting those bang flop results to?
Anyway good luck and enjoy.
mine seem to sit around the 3100/3200 mark and yes they are the hunting vlds. I will carry on with these until i get my hands on the 195's. i have shot a few tahr from 40 to 600 meters dropping the buggers easy enough. have shot a few deer in the last few weeks and have had no runners either, so happy with them. The 162 amaxs i found very good killers also.
Cheers Pongo12
Yes 195's look good if I can get some I might try them but the 1 in 9" twist rate that I have on the RUM you seemingly get marginal stability so it effects the BC, still bugger it an excuse fluff around and make some noise.
The 162 Amax looks good, really like the 140gr in the 6.5/.284 emphatic killers, I settled on the 162sst in the 7mm for shorter stuff.
Hopefully someone will chime in with some recipes for your screamer.
I had a similar rifle by the sounds of it it was a nz hunter built 7mm super fatso it was using 180gr bergers and they were going at about 3300fps . I can't be of much help with load data tho cause they loaded them for me .
yea bloody oath, something to play around with mate. they will be good im picking, i have a 1.8 twist for those heavy pills. 7mmsf, they are the lapua case aye? my screamers big brother
I want to hear more from Tussock... Please ;-)
I can just imagine what Geoff Thomas would say on Gone Fishing with Geoff and his mate Geoff...
'I'm here today with a good mate (let's just say) Greg and his 7mm BBPBB (Big Bad Powder & Barrel Burner), this rifle has been made by necking down a WW2 mortar shell to 7mm, it's essentially a .243 on steroids. Whilst is does use quite a bit of powder and kills anyone who fires it, the lads have bet me I can't hit the 50 yard two meter square gong. We'll see about that boys...'
I feel honoured! 👍
Shit and I thought I waffled some BS:roll:
