Hornady and Lapua brass being the main reasons, just size up neck with a mandrel and away you go.

All the short magnum 7mms are better suited for use in a short action due to the shorter case length.
In a long action they are good for an additional 150-200fps.
The 284win is a very good catridge, very efficient for the powder it burns but it doesn't keep up with the magnums (which burn 10gr more powder per shot).
Iv not played with 2209 but im pretty sure its late 50s in the saum but @Beetroot is correct really the saums just about 10gns behind most magnums
