Each to their own but why wouldn't you just buy a 7mm rem mag if you want to push 162's and be done with it ?

ELD-M goes great at 7mm08 velocity. Modern ELD projectiles and modern dialable optics don't need max velocity to get good performance.
Moving up to 7mmRM you only gain about 10% velocity (in comparable barrel lengths) but increase recoil by about 35% and significant more muzzle blast.
At normal hunting ranges the 7mm08 with 162 eldm makes alot of sense.
Id respectfully disagree. @7mmsaum didn't I used to get around 3150 FPS out of that sako with 162gn amaxes? Agree on recoil and muzzle blast but that just goes with the territory.
@7mmsaum haha yes. Hard to believe that was 19 years ago we were running around the hills with that weapon. Way before LR shooting became all trendy and everyone had a dial up scope.
How good is my memory ? was it a 30" muzzle braked barrel , 95.5 gns of 2208 for 3300 fps but more importantly the same energy at 1000yds as the good ole .243 had at the muzzle ? Just remember it weighed a tonne compared with my rifles these days and its a bonus not having to carry ear muffs![]()
I and I don’t no why have fallen into the heavy for calibre trend 80’s in .223 180s in 7 saum and plan on using 162eldm in 708 . The earlier two boogie but I imagen the 708 to be very slow the reason iv chosen it is their cheapish and soft if they made a lighter 7mm eldm I would be going that way but they don’t unfortunately 140 vld 150 lrab and 140 bt all are optimal to me but supply and cost is also on my mind
