    Alternative 308win powder

With the major shortage of powder at the moment I’m in need of a alternative to ADI 2208. Will be feeding a Tikka 1:11 308win with 168gr and 178gr ELD’s. Thinking about using IMR 4046 or IMR 8208 xbr before these to powders run out as well.

    Whats everyone’s thoughts.

748 is very good with 165 and 180s in the .308. 46-46.5 gns will give good accuracy and about 2600 + fps with a 180

    Greetings All,
As 30late said above 748 together with IMR 4064 and H4895 were the go to powders when I started loading the .308 in the mid 1970's. ADI2208 (Varget) was ADI's version of IMR4064 brought out in the mid 1980's. Recent test firings of AR2208 and Dupont IMR4064 showed the latter was a little faster. AR2206H (H4895) is my standard powder for the .306, .303 and .30-40 Krag these days.
For Sarvo of the powders mentioned above only 748 is made in the US. Primers are made elsewhere as well but the cyclic panic buying in the US seems to drain supply of most components when at its peak. Based on previous episodes supply should start to improve late in this year as it did for the last 3 election cycles.
    Regards Grandpamac.

Another alternative is SMP 763 POWDER which is sold by Belmont.
This is POWER PRO 2000-MR if you need to find load data.
Works great for heavy 308 bullets.
I have burnt 3lbs in the last month shooting 155gn and 175gns through my 308.
