    Anyone running a 30-20 rifle ?

    So a 30-20 is a .308" based on a 32-20 case

I'm guessing someone has one on a Martini Cadet action

Just wondering about now light jacketed bullets and nitro loads are going
There's a bit on line about 30-20 but no load and velocity info

I put a .308" 90 grain XTP in a new 32-20 case today while pondering this sensible wildcat

I have a 32-20 live pilot chamber reamer so only need to make a smaller bushing for a 308 barrel

And 308 barrels are pretty easy to find for a project like this Name: IMG20250810133544.jpg

I've thought about this chambering for years in a cadet but don't have a reamer. Seems to be a very well balanced cartridge with lots of options for loading both cast and factory bullets.

There are plenty of 85 to 125 grain bullets that would be ideal in a 30-20

    Greetings,
I see there is some rifle data for the 32-20 in one of the old ADI Guides using AR2205. The .32 is only a slightly oversize .30 calibre anyway. The case will be the weak link.

I had a mate in Aussie who had a Cadet chambered in 30-30 / 9mm . Used surplus 9mm projectiles, which were available in bulk cheap , and shot many a goat and other fauna with his wee rifle.

Ive got a 30-20 i dont use. Its a 1873 winchester replica (Uberti) that was rebarrelled in a previous life with a .308 target barrel and chambered as you describe.

I bought it thinking id use up all my unused m1 carbine projectiles, and various other similar .30 projectiles, but the cartridge is really too long for magazine feeding, so single loading is the go.
I lost interest in it, but as soon as i do regain some momentum i will be rechambering it in 30 badger - .38special brass run into a .30 tokarev die and chambered with a tokarev reamer run a bit deeper. Similar case capacity to the 32-20, but shorter, squatter and will feed through the magazine just fine. I already load for a TT33 so its only a little shuffle sideways.

I can figure out a good estimate in grt
But tbh data for.312 bullets will probably interchange quite nicely as long as the bullet weight is the same

It's a great idea though AB was talking about it for the Ballard project aswell

Great way to use an old 308 target barrel or even a 1-17 twist true flite if your feeling flush

I hoped to get some actual numbers and terminal performance info from someone using the light 308 spritzer bullets at 30-20 velocities

Those light bullets are generally intended for 308 Win velocity
The bullets for lower 30-30 velocity will have flat points for lever action rifles

I've used the 90 grain XTPs but only sub sonic at close range and they will have a hopeless BC

How. Heavy will you go??? Plenty of good soft options once 120-130grn is reached

    Yeah plenty
But my thinking is optimized for faster 30 cals
So maybe a 110 grain hollow point or one of the light varmint and game bullets that are on the soft side

Your never going to get sizzling velocity from that size case, probably slightly over 2000 or 2400 tops in guessing. I know someone who uses 110 grain 30 cal jacketed carbine bullets in a 310 cadet and he easily exceeds m1 carbine velocities

My old mate up north used to cast a 110grn for his M1 carbine....I remember it well as it had hollow point that was very very deep. The options must be endless.
