A friend uses them in his 20(?)” Sako. He gets good results on reds. He often neck shoots them though. He mainly shoots at closeish ranges, inside 100yds from memory. He did just try to find some more and is finding it hard. Thinking of switching to 80gr GMX.
Yeah man I ran them out of browning 243 I got from smiddy they killed real well.
They were fair moving.

so.....the .308 is in cupboard...the 6.5creampuff,also in cupboard and now you have a twoforfree?????
from what Ive seen with barnes in .223 and little I did with .270..... go as light of weight as you can get and run them fast....your 80 grain in 6mm SHOULD be really good but shoulder shoot so projectile has got something to work with, speed plus resistance means it will open and dump energy, break stuff and do damage....
Ive used a heap of Speer 80 grn Hot Core in the past. Great bullet if you can get them.
95g Nosler ballistic tips hammer big red stags when put in the right spot
The 90gr ELD-X makes big holes in fallow, I haven't used them on reds but I wouldn't hesitate except for shoulder shots on big stags. My load is doing 3140fps from a 23.5" barrel.
They are generally easier to find than a lot of the other Hornady projectiles.
Use 37gr of 2206, not H, with 80 and 85 Barnes in 16" barrel, never let me down. Was in Browning BAR, now in BSA Majestic, also use the old 85 Nosler solid base. Have just received a packet of 60gr 243, their an Aussie version of Barnes.
I was going to use the 80gr Speer in my 6x45, because the were as accurate as hell. Decided against it, because they aren’t made anymore, and I didn’t want the hassle/disappointment of running out and having to do load development all over again.
For the .243 I’d be more than happy with the 90gr ballistic tip. Their smaller brothers (70gr) have killed me a fair amount of game at 3000fps. The 90’s at 3100 would be shit hot. Strong enough up close, good enough bc to hold some speed, and yet soft enough to open at 300.
There’s also the 85gr partition. Not cheap (neither are Barnes) but very versatile. Also the Hammer bullets could be worth a look. Available, and by all accounts very fast. @Tahr can probably tell you more about them.
Have got lots of 80gn Speer here if anyone wants them.
A .243 thread! good job! I love my .243
I have 21x 90gn Swift Scirocco and about 70x 90n Speer Hotcor if anyone want to trade some 6mm pills for 6mm pills.
My friends load is 45gr IMR4350 for 3256fps.
Ryan, I used the 80gr TTSX in my .243 Win a good while back now. Very effective at closer ranges - drops good sized deer no problem - but it sheds velocity quite quickly and once past about 250m its a bit hit and miss with expansion. Low 2000s impact velocity and its not that flash at all. Not particularly great in the wind either, and if a couple of inches too far back they were zipping through goats without much damage. Below ~150m then the TTSX is in its element (high 2000s impact velocity) but IMO there’s a lot of much better bullets to use if the majority of your shots are >150m in our typical open country type conditions. I went back to the Sierra ProHunter because on the one property the average range was 150-250m shooting across the gullies, and the lead bullet was more effective by a good margin.
With the short barrel I would probably go for the 85gr GameKing.
We have used them on reds for annual spring early summer meat raids. They are brutal when fed hard. On more than 1 occasion my son has shot 2 reds with 1 bullet. They are zipping out of the barrel. At 300m you can see the trail. If you miss vitals the deer just stand there. They are a scary pill. Probably on a par with 53gr Barnes when similarly loaded up.
Under estimated caliber the .243 my go to load is 100grn SPBT with 32.5 grns of 2208 works well on reds out to 300yrds
Loving the 90gr ELDX in my 243. Super accurate and good performance on fallow and red hinds to date. Using 44gr 2209 for 3160 fps 22" bbl. seated 20 thou off lands.
Used 85tsx in my m7 @ 18in killed well never shot anything over 250,you dont retrieve many bullets though
Picked up some of the 85gr TSX and got to work on them today. 45.6gr Superformance gives 3140fps from the 18.5” barrel and stellar accuracy in fact it shot under an inch all the way from 45.3gr to 46.5gr in .3gr increments but the 45.6 really tightened up. I actually had a chronograph malfunction (think I got too close to the muzzle) on that load and it only showed 2800fps so I loaded up some more to chrony them again and they shot a tiny little raggedy hole group again so job done on the wee 243. Should be a pretty handy wee rig super easy to shoot and weighs 2.9kg with the suppressor and z3 on it.

thats how a twoforfree/EBRG is supposed to shoot.......good shit bud,enjoy it .
Very nice, go the mighty 243
That would be an ok only one rifle for all seasons - but that is not in your nature. Or mine.
I must say I very much enjoyed loading for it and shooting it and it’s a joy to carry. The new Creedmoor got one day of load development and then it’s been put away and hasn’t seen the light of day again yet. I’ll dig it out if and when I get bored with the 243 and it will be like getting a new rifle, but already paid for :)
hows the 22-250 going???? did those 55grn projectiles I sent you work out as you hoped???
So since I didn’t actually get any pressure when working up a load the other day curiosity got the better of me today and I decided to keep working up and see if I could find another node. Got to 46.8gr superformance and again the groups tightened right up. Loaded some more to chronograph and shot two more sub half inch groups and getting 3290fps. 47.5 gave a sticky bolt and the groups were opening up again anyhow so have settled on the 46.8gr load. I’ll check the load again when summer approaches to ensure any temp sensitivity issues won’t cause problems, I know the superformance can get a bit upset at opposite ends of the mercury. Very impressed from a short barrel and looks like the load will pack a good punch a fair way out. I’ve been doing a bit of research on the yank forums and they reckon this projectile needs about 2000fps and above impact velocity to open reliably in deer sized game which it certainly holds a fair way out. I’ve searched high and low trying to find a z3 3-10 with BRX/BRH reticle to no avail as I really love these scopes super lightweight and great glass and performance, nice forgiving eye box and balance well on lightweight rifles. So I decided to make up a turret label and dial it a few times to check return to zero etc and it passed with flying colours couple of first round hits at 380yds and 530yds, if I’ve got time to dial then I’ve got time to take the cap off and do it so I’m very happy with it and think that me and the wee rat gun will get along just fine.

Bloody good idea they are a bloody nice little scope.

+1 @Ryan_Songhurst what did you use to make the label?
Word of advice, if you think your gonna be dialing take the cap off and leave it at home or in a safe zip pocket/pouch....dont ask me how I know :psychotic:
@Dreamer I used this website https://turretlabels.com/ I had to do a bit of trial and error to get the size exactly correct but I’ve got it sorted now. Where it asks for your turret diameter you need to add 0.2mm more to allow for the slight overlap of the paper when you wrap it around. The z3 turret has a diameter of 17.8mm and a label setup for an 18mm turret is perfect. You have to sign up for an account but there’s no requirements other than entering your email and choosing a password, I just used a burner email account I have as I know these sorts of things usually result in ads etc being sent your way but the website itself is easy as to use and heaps of options for customising and adding extra rotations etc I just went basic
@Ryan_Songhurst thanks mate!
Also, @Dreamer I made a bit of a stuff up on that label pictured as for some reason I thought that the z3 had 64 clicks for a full rotation giving a total of 16moa on one rotation (back to zero being 16moa) but it actually has 60 clicks so 15 MOA, have reprinted and all clicks line up perfect with hash marks now
