hornady super performance runs amazing in mine, three holes touching at 100m $70 something a box of 20 though!
+1 for hornady sst or gmx been using them for the last 5+yrs. pays to shop around last lot i got through farmlands about $50 a box
Federal blue boxes. 150s. Can't say exactly how accurate but what I shoot is bang and drop dead. Works for me
130gr Belmont .
But a barrel is like a woman, some can be fussy on what you feed them with.
Hey buzz I found Belmont 130 really good to before got into reloads .I have 308 die if you need to run some loads
Awesome, Chorny both, average for the 150sst is 2995fps and the 165sst at 2830fps. Best kill so far was a Bull tahr at 282m with the 150sst and it was dead before it hit the ground, total poleaxed it. Impressed as well as both rounds POI is nearly the same apart from slight difference in height. All shoot under a inch at 100m and best group so far .442 at 100 yards with the 165sst. cant beat that for factory i recken
ive never shot a t3 that doesn't shoot Remington corloct or fed blue box or both
my mates 7mm-08 shot both the Remington 140gn coreloct and the 150gn fed bluebox to the same poi at 100m which was very surprising very handy as you could buy what ever the local shop had and go hunting no rezero or anything
I love the Fed blue box ammo in my 243, they awesome at stopping animals. The local shops are always trying to sell me the fusions thou. im not changing as the Feds work too good but what have people found using the fusions in their 308s or any cal for that matter? im sure they work good but i have never seen any group any good.
Ive seen they in a 7m 08, 308, 3006 at the range and the groups were all shit, even out of a sako.
will depend on your gun barrel every rifles different even t3 to t3
never trust what it says on the box they normally use longer test barrels to make it look more impressive chrony your rifle is the only way to know for sure
I know a guy who trusted his box as gospel he would hold over to his box and wonder why he was missing I giggled and get him waste 100 rounds before I explained to him that it was only a very rough guide and the fact he only had a 15 inch barrel it would be miles off what the box says
Thats true Rambo-6mmrem but as stated out of my 24 inch barrel the 150 doing 2995(box 3000) and the 165 2830(box 2840) so thats pretty good for the hornady SF sst doing what it states
Yep all good that a good speed for fact ammunition you have a 24inch barrel which is most likely the same length as hornady's test barrel
Most rifles standard these days have 22inch barrels and 60% have been cut alot shorter
Best to borrow a crony if you don't have one and it only takes a few minutes to bast 5 rounds over it
I know you have done so but so meay don't and just take the box as gospel
+1 for Federal blue box .308 150 gr. easily shoots sub-MOA in my old Rem 700.
many shops will do a 3-pack deal which works out a bit cheaper, at the moment I'm using Winchester Super X 150 gr. for $100/3 boxes.
Federal fusion 150 gr in my tikka 270wsm shoot way better than the 130 gr from the federal blue box. But the federal 150gr blue box 308 is also one of my favourite round in my hunting guns
I love corelocts for hunting the bc's are shit so no good if your shooting anything over 350-400 they are a bonded bullet and super hard so I find they work best if you shoot what ever it is right in the shoulder blade goes though buggers lungs and hart and normally exits out the other shoulder blade with an exit hole I can fit my fist into and drops them on the spot
Can you tell me how you manage to hit the heart while going through the two shoulder blades?
Attachment 55050
He will sell it before the barrel gets warm.
shot the 150grn sst superformance today 1/4" @ 100 5 shots lol
For sale yet Buzz, im keen at the right $, depreciation is a bitch though.
sorry 223nut went to answer but hit in your post instead , that's why you see the Jakewire edit bit
What I said was
70$ for 20 is probably why we reload
couple off years ago i could get my ammo cost plus %5. $37 a box:o and $33 a box for hornady 223 brass training ammo. thats with steves wholesalers already putting his cut on it by it goes to the retailer.
An old mate down Palmy way bought a bush block a few months back and invited me and another Palmy mate to have a look around his new investment - he had too many animals in a 300 acre paddock so offered each of us to take home a spiker - I got mine with the 270 resting on the bottom of the gate - but my mate managed to miss his one with his old 303 - caged spiker still tastes fine but it was a bit skinny
After several later attempts to get the 303 accurate on his farm - I finally convinced him to ditch it
He asked me to check out the Tauranga shops for a good deal in 308 or 7mm08 - I found him a run out model Tikka super lightweight 7mm08 at $1299 - sorry Tahr they didn’t have a superlight weight in 308 or we would have done that - I love the look of that fluted barell and it is so light for old fellas
While I was in the shop - another old mate we used to hunt with was doing the shop extension fit out - he asked the owner for a special deal for us - I couldn’t get any more off the Tikka but got a good deal on a VX1 and some ammo
I have used Winchester Silvertips for years so asked for a couple of boxes - could only get Ballistic Silvertips - but figured they would be OK
So the gear ended up down in Palmy - but my mate wasn’t keen to run the Tikka in on the Silvertips so got a slightly cheaper blue box of Federal - he went out to the range at Turitea yesterday and quickly decided that I had bought him a real DOG - he couldn’t get it to group inside 5 inches at 100m - they were all over the place - after 16 shots out of the blue box - in desperation he got out a box of Silvertips - the first shot was close to the vertical line and 2.5 inches high - the second shot seemed to miss the A4 target altogether - the third shot made the first hole move a fraction - he went up to the target and found the three bullets had all gone through the same hole - he was a very happy Tikka owner and remembered his days in the army where he was classed as a marksman - I would have liked him to reduce the trigger from 3lb to 2lb but he was happy with it out of the box
I don’t recall my Tikka 243 ever putting three shots through the same hole at 100m - but it was pretty good
I don’t think my mate will ever buy a blue box again - but he is real keen to get up in the bush with the Silvertips - I just hope he will be happy with the killing power of the 7mm08 on reds
I had great results with the Federal 130Grn stopped pigs pretty good too
Cheers Antz
Fed blue box 150grn get my nod! :ORLY:
I saw a box of buffalo river Ammo: 308 loaded with 135 gr Sierra hp projectiles. They could be the ticket for all the varmint to small size deer .
No ones said ppu and highland! You bunch of ammo snobs. It's only a tikka! Lol
Start at the cheapest and see if it shoots, My last 308 shot privi to .8 and knocked animals down well.
