Hmmm - fitted the new-ish hose to the 10Kg machine and gave it a test run outside. Kept popping the hose off the drain pump fitting, no mechanical retainer on the plastic pump housing so the hose was just getting pushed straight off. That just won't do!

Back to Dr Google as the original was glued on with some form of Aliens movie brown sticky softish goop, no idea what that is. Google not very helpful either, except to suggest some form of mega-expensive and hard to acquire 3M Scotch 800 series aviation sealant that comes as a rather large tube from somewhere not in NZ. Not ideal... It looks like 3M have made it as some form of contact adhesive with waterproofing additives and stuff to make it flexible - that had my head scratcher function working overtime. Everything else I picked up from the glue box like the ADOS range were not recommended for permanent immersion - not ideal. After all a flood there proved to be quite dramatic, a lot more drama than actually required.

So, dipping back into the hoard pile - Epsealon Polyglut. Well this might do, a rubber glue designed for neoprene products and modified with waterproofing agents and butynol for flexibility. Slapped the thing back together with the polyglut gluing the drain hose to the bowl and the drain pump housing, 24 hour cure time and a couple of decent hose clamps later and it's back in business.

This whole experience is really not doing my hoarding tendencies any good at all!

    Greetings,
I had rounded up all the data I needed for light IMR4198 loads in the .308 and finally did what I should have done done right at the start. I poured the powder out of the non original can into a clean one. There were gremlins in the bottom of the can. There were powder granules stuck to the bottom and sides of the can and a little rust showing. The powder had deteriorated so it joined about 4 pounds of other powder from full unopened cans under the trees. I have been using AR2206H for light .308 loads but that has been hard to get so Benchmark 2 and Benchmark 8208 will be tried. All of the dumped powder had been given to me so I don't feel too bad about it.
    Regards GPM.

Excellent fertiliser but more fun to burn it.

I will burn it when it comes back as firewood if I live long enough.

I have been wondering that exact same thing about reduced loads, BM8208 seems readily available currently and would appear very similar in appearance to 2206H from the two bottles I have here. BM8208 is listed as being one step faster than 2206H on ADI's burn rate chart (the now discontinued 2206 site between them). I see IMR8208XBR (same powder sold in Hogdon packaging) has a few comments as being positioned on the burn rate charts as slower than 2206H, which is directly the opposite of the ADI chart...

There doesn't seem to be any load data available at all for BM8208 as a reduced load powder though.

When I wanted to try BM8208 in my 223 I bought IMR8208BR. The ADI product was 1 kilo whilst the IMR was 1 lb. I didn't want a kilo if it didn't give me the results I wanted.

I've picked rust flakes out of powder that was still dry and smelled good, put it in clean plastic and preceeded to load it up and shoot it. Went just fine. But then I've worked a bit with old powders and yes, some went out as fertilizer. Your mileage may differ.
I know a lot but it seems less every day...

Often wondered about the concern that container has started to rust. Just proves its an old container.

I'm with you, concern yourself with the condition of the powder.

    Greetings all,
The sort out continues but focus has shifted to rifles. My late father had a system for sorting stuff, mostly applied to seeds. He had three categories. Will use, might use and won't use. My father never applied his rule to rifles, never having owned one, but it seemed worth a crack. It did not thin the ranks all that much but did give me a start. One rifle that was close to the line was a little .22 Hornet break open rifle that needs some TLC from a gunsmith to get it shooting again. It would be just the thing for potting those pesky hares that like to eat any new trees I plant. Much quieter than the .223 rifles. Please note the use rifles plural there. Next thought was Why not cook up some light loads for one of the .223's? They have dial up scopes and are already in the will use column. Why not indeed? Watch this space.
    Regards Grandpamac.

Was thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were getting along. As the majority of the renovations are coming to a close here, the cleanup in the sheds have started. Need to get my wife’s car into one of the bays so that’s the first target but seems like I’m just poking things around. Still, it’s a beautiful day and space is appearing so no complaints. Good luck in your endeavours.
