What I meant was:
The difference in bullet drop at 250yards for two bullets, same weight, one flat base, other boat tail would be minimal.

A bit more bang is better.
Had a look. 308, 180gr doing 2600fps.
At 250 yards. Flat base or BT. Difference was 0.2".

For 90% of hunting. I.E. 400 yards/meters or less, the projectile that shoots most accurately and performs best terminally, will be more important than BC or boat tail/flatbase.
Unsophisticated... AF!
Hallo Vlakkie. Please tell me more about your 243W?
And also about the projectiles your using?
Flat base projectiles are generally more accurate than BTs out to about 300m - ever seen a short range benchrester shooting boat tails?
Would you be able to post a close up picture of your crown?
Been down this rabbit hole. It's not so much the bullet shape but the weight. .243 barrels aren't typically the right twist rate to stabilize heavier VLD projectiles. 1/7.5 would be far better than the bs 1/10 you often see.
Try any 70gn bullet and see. I found the targex so good I looked at my poor howa and thought "i take back all the hateful shit I said about you!"
Re 243 barrels, I though most were 9.25". IE All savages, & rem 700'S, Later Rugers were 9".
Looks like the market has responded to the heavy for caliber and long copper bullets by now moving to 8" Twist in 243's. And not before time.
