i had always thought of the driving bands as just creating drag more than the added benefit of multiple pressure waves . . so cheers for that
@Moa Hunter it may help to explain why cast bullets at even moderate supersonic speeds seem to kill so much better than i would have guessed by only adding 3-400 fps compared to the 1000fps of subsonic.

@rossi.45 So from the image and explanation given with it, the driving bands create a shock wave which must, I am guessing, prolong and add to the wound channel disruption created at the front of the projectile, perhaps even broadening the permanent wound channel ?. The reason I started to re-ponder this matter was after reading one of your posts where one cast bullet had a better terminal effect than another of a similar weight and velocity.
