    Cost of primers.

    Currently US$60-70 in the US.
Friday I was quoted au$210 per 1k. . I'm in no rush so I'm waiting.
Often it's as high as $235

I know they are dear in NZ.

In the last couple of years 3 or 4 new companies have set up new facilities and started manufacturing.

But I reckon importers are simply gouging. BIG time.

Before covid commonly AU$70 per 1k. Sometimes much less.

At those prices in the US we should be at the very least under $120

I think the primers they are selling at present do seem overpriced, but perhaps the current stock was bought when the price was higher and I'm not sure how the cost of shipping will affect them.
Simply put I think primers should be cheaper than they are currently selling for

"but perhaps the current stock was bought when the price was higher".

    Could be a factor.

Just appears we are being raped by about $100 / 1k

If you were actually being raped I think that you would know about it

If you don't like the cost, don't buy them

Or better yet, whinge because you have nothing else to whinge about

Then maybe us NZers should complain about Austroolia sending us a murderous dickhead who shot a lot of innocent people and fucked up our gun laws to the point where they are as bad as Aussie's

What can I say. Seems your happy to pay the current prices. Enjoy.

P.S. don't know what a mass murder has to do with cost of primers.

Problem we have is that primers for sporting purposes are literally an annoying diversion for the plants making them. The majority are going into military and govt. contracts and that is bulk plain packaging, container loads at a time.

By comparison, civilian stuff requires a change to fancy packaging, outers inners and then retail shelf packaging with a redo of the manufacturing lines at either end of the run. They can't just make a heap for civilian sales and stockpile them, they have too much demand for the plain pack stuff. So simply put, the plants charge more for the hassle of doing civilian orders...

If Americans can get civilian packaged primers for ~NZ $60-70/ 1000, we are getting rolled.

Even allowing for freight and GST, that's massively less than $300-350 retail here.

Yep, someone is buying a lot of property or perhaps yacht's.
Sure, it isn't simple but the reality is we are being ripped off.
And I don't think calling it out is whinging.

No way transport doubles the cost, as some apear to believe. And production has been increased significantly so I fail to see how demand would be out stripping supply.

    It smells.

I might add. The additional costs relating to transport overseas would be: ( I think)

Modified shipping containers with venting and wood lining.
    Additional insurance.
    Additional DG signage.
    Additional documentation.
    Perhaps Additional importing fees.

    But I'm no expert.

    West Island criminals

Steal our flag and celebrate the height of your "culture" with the chant of "Aussie, Aussie,Aussie,Oi,Oi,Oi!"

When the Australian yacht on some feckin race broke apart and sank, the NZ media went to a kiwi yachtie and said - "Do you feel sorry for the Australians?" - He replied "One always feels sorry for the Australians" - second best quote ever in the history of sports

Make yourself as wet as possible sunshine, having owned Semi auto's and watching too many monkey's use them we are better off with out them. They sure are a handy tool but idiots end up wrecking the show.
