hand wringing over the price of a 100 primers... that no one is being forced to buy.

I sort of agree Burb, it's shit, but humans have been fucking over fellow humans for centuries, and sadly that's not likely to change any time soon.

Let's not get started on the inequities of the construction industry... or the food supply chain... or the military industrial complex (see Why We Fight - 2005 doco)... or The Lightbulb Conspiracy (YouTube)... Reckon we'd hit 100 pages on the thread quick smart.

Learned a few things from this thread:
    1. Some people think selling things for more than you bought them for is grossly unfair/borderline criminal.
    2. Some people think it's totally fine.
    3. Some people could not give a flying farnarkle.
    4. Sometimes can people can be saying similar things in a different way, and still disagree with each other.
    5. My 5th form economics teacher, Mr Barry, was right after all, when saying that the market will pay what they think something is worth, given some various relevant factors, and blah, blah, blah (or something like that... I failed economics)
    6. Fark, I forgot what lesson 6 was, can't have been important.

I have been mostly chuckling away to this thread, pondering whether the person who bought the 100 primers is aware of this raging debate. Maybe they are also insulted at having to pay that price, but really needed/wanted them and just though fuck it? Or maybe they are someone who has just got into it, don't mind paying that price per primer, and are utterly oblivious to the 'good ol' days' of primer prices that have been impacted by far-off wars, global pandemics and the like? Or maybe they walk among us, but feel like they can't own up to their crime for fear of retribution or banishment, chased down by hoardes of folk carrying pitchforks and keyboards? (it wasn't me, okay?) Who knows. Or cares?

Wow, that was a lot of thinking and typing. Reckon I might go have a beer.

Gunworks have large rifle primers in stock tomorrow see below

Great news, arriving tomorrow afternoon (as long as the truck doesn’t breakdown) Fiocchi large rifle primers $30 per tray of 150, no limits, we can freight to a south island non rural address for $20.

If you would like to backorder email us (please don’t ring us) the following:

    Name:
    Mobile number:
    Address (if posting out):
    Quantity 1 tray (150), 2 trays (300), 3 trays (450) etc

We will only hold unpaid orders until 6pm Tuesday 28 February 2023

If you don’t want Fiocchi, we are expecting RWS mid year and Expansion end of this year – Federal and CCI have no eta and could be years away for all we know as the manufacturer won’t commit to a timeframe.

At the risk of being pounced on by a few of you hotheads -

The price of ammo has gone up, initially from supply failing to meet demand: correct. The other side of the coin however is, we have a somewhat smallish demographic of folks who have a large sum of disposable income who purchase incredibly large swathes of ammo at the inflated prices. Suppliers have now been taught that people will pay the inflated rates, despite the costs associated with buying the product having come down. Between that and price fixing the bulk of folks will purchase less ammo, and the wealthy guys on here who love to point out how great this is won't care and never have. For folks like myself, I have stopped buying ammo for over a year, I have 14 or so rifles plus a few shotguns and eventually I will just leave the sport. I suspect there will be quite a number like me, so as the numbers dwindle we'll see how that pans out for future legislation and the health of the sport etc. What has saved us for years has been our large number. Personally I see ammo prices continuing to rise, despite small reprieves every now and then.

you can call me a Karen or a Communist (despite being neither) if you like, I see both sides of the argument, my concern is a runaway escalation in either direction should make us pause to reflect rather than panic.

The price of metal went up
The price of fuel did too
This increased the cost of freighting anything anywhere
    Then there was a pandemic
    Then a war broke out

So here we are.Wages havn't caught up with inflation and NZ hasnt gotten any closer to where ammo or components are made.

Looks like Gunworks have dealt to the primer supply and demand issue. In the SI at least.

I bought some Fiocchi primers this morning from Collings and Brady in Carterton - Large rifle in trays of 150 for $27 each from memory, they have stock but it's moving

He said that they are getting shipments in soon from the new Texan outfit starting up so it looks like the drought has broken around here

Overall it looks like prices have ticked up but supply is coming back

blah blah "the new normal" etc

I can live with $200 to $250 for 1000 ok, 1000 is a lot of primers

    PRIMERS.

Seems that perhaps later this year a new player will be pumping them out faster than the groom on his wedding night.

When will they get here? Your guess is as good as mine.

Yeah I think this is the new Texan outfit I mentioned a couple of posts back?
Local outfit here in Carterton in Wairarapa said in he next few months but for Aust I don't know

I've resisted the urge to stock up now so others can get some but once supply is back in full I will keep a larger stock in future - I'd magine others will do the same
